The ATI Super Damper is elastomer based, no fluid. The fluid filled vibration damper from PRW uses silicone gel.
Cool...thought i saw a thinggy on speed about the "damper in a damper" desgin...must have been something else. Thanks for the correction!!
Posted this in a more recent thread, but wanted to copy and past it here for those who might find it in the future. So, I think after 3 years of guessing, I might finally have an answer. I spoke with the great guys over at Best Motor Werks in Columbus about my car. They pulled the fuel filter and said it was extremely dirty! They wont be able to test drive it till after the weekend, but they are confident that is what is causing the issues. I will report back and let you everyone know. My car did this when the MAF sensor was bad, but it would throw a code and would go into limp mode until I turn the car off and back on again. I think the codes would clear when I did that. It was the post-supercharger MAF sensor which you can see from the front of the car, not the pre-boost sensor which is on top of the thermostat.
FYI~ Your car does not have a MAF sensor. You have a MAP and T-MAP sensors. None of the first Gens had MAF sensors.
Dave: (Off topic) My 06 R52 is RMW dyno tuned. I still get yo-yo at medium throttle after slowing from hwy speed. Otherwise the car is relatively smooth up and down the RPM range at all throttle settings. I have the DT Bypass value, but even Jan seems to discourage its use. So, I haven't taken the risk to install it. I have read old opinions of lower mileage and on-off driveability issues. So, what in your opinion is the latest known effect of the DT unit compared to the stock unit? Pros and cons? My car dynoed at 200 WHP on just external mods and catback exhaust while Jan was tuning it. So, it seems to have good overall power for no engine mods. I don't track - just club runs and regular driving. --Russ
I was down at Helix yesterday and Mike had an R53 in the shop with the Yo Yo issue and running rough. First he got ride of the red MSD and put in an OEM one and the idle smothered right out. The car already had new OEM plugs and wires. The car also had the DT bypass valve but is was working perfectly. The issue turned out to be a bad (high milage) throttle body. Replaced with an OEM one and she runs nice an smooth now.
the DT BPV isnt a radical redesign its just a stock one with a stiffer spring...i had one in my R53 for 140k miles with never an issue...i pulled the throttle body off every once in awhile and cleaned the butterfly valve because after years of use it will gunk on it...also pull the intercooler off and check the boots and the other vac lines...sometimes a small crack or tear in a boot or hose can cause a yoyo effect
oh and a dirty fuel filter can cause it as well because if the engine starts to get fuel starved it will adjust the timing and ign to compensate...also you might want to look at your fuel pump...depending on its age it might not be working as well too...i know i replaced my pump at about 180k and the plastic was so dry the spring loaded top popped out like a jack in the box as soon as Colin pulled the access cover
Your correct! After changing the filter, the mechanic took it for another drive and found it still didnt have fuel pressure. Hoped the cheap fix would have done it, but apparently the fuel pump is what had clogged the filter. Thats correct. It ran well at times, but usually left me stranded somewhere on a long drive.
