New to the Mini-forums -- I normally hang out in the Porsche world where I race and restore them as a hobby. However my daughter is quickly coming of the age to drive -- and a Mini is more practical than any P-car I'll cobble together Considering buying a 07 MCS with a auto tranny issue. PO says that is won't go into 5th or 6th gear. I'm a decent shade tree mechanic. I can R&R and I've read about the valve body replacement -- which I think I could pull off easily enough. I've been doing some surfing on the subject. From what I have read Just not sure if the '07's have the valve body problems -- If it's an R&R of the whole tranny -- that changes the price point. If its likely to 'just' be a valve body -- I'd be much more willing to roll the dice. If there is also a pointer of other things to expect on a 100K mile Mini that would be great too. thanks, Mike
There is a really good thread about this tranny on northamericanmotoring.com. This is an Asin Warner TF-60N. Volkswagen uses it, and is labeled as the 09g. They are pretty tough, but there also does not seem to be a lot of replaceable parts. Fluid flushes are key to a long life. Does this throw any errors? A lot of the NAM discussion centers on r53 cars, but the tranny is essentially the same when installed in the r56.
If you look straight down past the oil filter you will see a wire bundle going into the transmission. It can get oil in it from the dripping oil filter during a change. I was told by a MINI tech that if trans problems show up to remove & clean that connection. I hope that is it & you get lucky. :fingerscrossed: I'd also recommend a fluid change. Do the cheap stuff first. Welcome to M/A.
