There is a really good thread about this tranny on northamericanmotoring.com. This is an Asin Warner TF-60N. Volkswagen uses it, and is labeled as the 09g. They are pretty tough, but there also does not seem to be a lot of replaceable parts. Fluid flushes are key to a long life. Does this throw any errors? A lot of the NAM discussion centers on r53 cars, but the tranny is essentially the same when installed in the r56.

If you look straight down past the oil filter you will see a wire bundle going into the transmission. It can get oil in it from the dripping oil filter during a change. I was told by a MINI tech that if trans problems show up to remove & clean that connection. I hope that is it & you get lucky. :fingerscrossed:
I'd also recommend a fluid change. Do the cheap stuff first.
