    Hi @yajing welcome to MA!

The N14 engine does have a problem with carbon build up on the intake valves due to it being a direct injection engine and the way the PVC system was designed. Change the oil every 5000 miles no longer will help. But you will have to have it blasted every so often. I believe its around 50,000 miles. give or take a little.
At 60k I would think your car does need it done. I does cause different odd codes, will this fix it? cant say for sure but as the carbon build up gets worse the car will run worse and eventually quit running. It can even lead to a rebuild. I would have it done.

    Welcome to M/A!

I have generation 1 MINIs and cannot help you but there are plenty of folk here who might have knowledgeable suggestion or two. I HAVE heard of the walnut treatment and those turbos seem prone to carbon buildup.

    Good luck!
