Well if we're allowed to invite friends how about a merger  The S2000 Club plus all of us? If its a no go then I understand, but just throwing stuff out and seeing if it sticks... We're (The S2K Club) is looking for a "Fall Event" now and this could be a nice combination. I'll even drive the Clubby, I swear
I'm fine with that! How many people are we talking about because where I was planning on stopping for lunch is fairly small I think (will know better after Friday). They do have a second location that I may need to include a stop for just to be safe.
I'm not 100% sure who would all come out... I can post a feeler thread on S2KI and let you know what its looking like. Quite a few guys are from Columbus and surrounding areas so it should be around 6 including me, if I was throwing out a ballpark #. I'll have to let you know for sure though because 7 hrs + whatever it takes to get home will be a lot of driving for us haha.
Drive is looking to be between 6 to 7/12 hours depending if you take the shorter or longer return route. I'm going to drive the longer route on Friday, so I should have a better idea when I get back. Both routes have a final destination south of C-bus, so the drive time back to C-bus is not included in the estimates. Also not included is time spent for lunch.
Gonna try getting Fiona running in time for this! Anyone interested in coming by and blotting away my tears as I struggle with brake bleeders, un-labeled wiring, and a thousand other things that still need to be done this weekend? Seriously, folks... how often do you get to see a grown man cry?
Updated first post with highlevel details of the drive and the people who had indicated that they were going or a maybe.
There will be other drives (not sure about this fall). Let me know if any of your S2k friends are interested. I drove the long route on Friday and will not be using it on 10/11. It felt like to much driving, but I did drive on some fun roads that I will file away for another time and have lunch at a place that I have wanted to try for awhile. I'm going to try and go back out next weekend to look at a shortened route (and check on one of the roads that was closed on Friday). Trying to keep it to around 250 miles.
Will do! We'll have to merge the groups some other time, if not this year for sure next. Two groups of great guys with some of the best driving machines on the road
Just to clear up any confusion, this is just a random drive that I set up (not tied to M/A or MoM and as some would point out, I don't even own a MINI anymore). I posted it up here in case people wanted to do a drive and not have to try and put something together. I haven't got a lot of interest on any of the sites I have posted on, but I'm fine with that because I've had fun driving some of the different routes already and saving them off in a spreadsheet for future use.
Brian, you are a former MINI owner, not sure that's going to wash off. Most important thing is you are a friend & by being one you get to drive any car you like. Please don't buy a Prius. As far as car counts go I feel small groups are better than large ones. :smile5: Nice of you to take the time to lay out a nice multi denominational drive.
A large group is fine as long as it splits into several small groups for the actual drive. Nothing worse than a wagon train of cars when everyone has a copy of the route.
I agree completely. This has been my experience with doing drives. I end up asking myself why I bothered to do a route & print up instructions. I guess one could appoint a couple of folks who are capable of reading & following a route as group leaders, but that just seems like too much much work & organisation. My disorganized manner wouldn't let me do that.
I agree. Most of the routes we take aren't that challenging to navigate and wrong turns are usually pretty evident shortly after they occur. The best thing I ever started doing was just setting my GPS to map view to get some advanced view of upcoming turns (that and taping the route notes to my dash, so I don't have to fumble with the pages).
