Been drooling at that one myself. The only thing that troubles me are the velocity tubes with no air filters.

 

They make foam socks for those, he probably just has them off to show off the stacks......those things are noisy too!

 

Yep they are. It's neat how you can tune the performance from low end to high buy changing the length of the stacks.

Wow, is that in good shape or what! Looks just like one i had. It was a bit tricky keeping those dual webers tuned just right.

 

The trick is tuning those SU carburetors. It's not as hard as you would think. Weber carbs gave me more trouble than SU's ever did. Of course now with everything having fuel infection the knowledge base of tuning SU's & working with points in distributors is a dying art. :frown5:

 

I've found that once you have SU carburetors set and synched they stay that way. You just have to remember to keep the dashpots topped up.

 

Yes to all those carb comments.....the newer SUs - HIF 38 and HIF44 are even easier to set and forget, and like the Dneper says, just keep the oil topped up. However, there are huge discussions on the English forums on what type and viscosity of oil to use! :biggrin5:

BTW, HIF means Horizontal Internal Float...instead of having the float bowl off to the side, it's in the bottom of the carb.

Also a lot of discussion on BaT about the oversills - panels welded over the original sills(rocker panels in Ameri-speak), usually a quick and dirty way to hid rust.

 

Shiny paint can blind a buyer to the real condition of a car. :frown2: Always take a disinterested friend with you to look for things you may may miss.

 

This thread alone is enough to make one turn and run rapidly in the other direction when and if oversills are present...

As Dave suggests, there is almost always something bad hiding under them and if there isn't, it won't be long.
