It will be interesting to see what price this GP fetches as it appears to have some comments on observed paint quality and what the decals have done to the paint.

 

The red JCW went for $19,250

 

The GP is at $10,922 with three days to go

 

No Reserve

 

Plus 2k to take off the crap, then 2k to bring up the paint to acceptable standards a nice shine.

 

I could most likely do it myself, but it would take all winter & part of the spring. I'm old, slow & methodical these days.

It's much easier keeping after Skooby & the Bread-Van these days.

 

I don’t know what BAT charges for the transaction and which party pays but someone got a great diamond in the rough deal. We saw Dave.0 do some very remarkable work on a number of cars working in his driveway and single bay garage. I don’t mean to make it seem like it would be a walk in the park but with a few tools a some elbow grease one could have a very nice driver.

 

To a collector little things like that are a big deal but I would take either one for a fun driver.

 

I'd be thrilled to get $10k for Rufus ('05 JCW), if I ever decided to sell.

 

I'd like to get a set of the GP floor mats, but that price is too high to scavenge those out.

 

That's actually sign #3.

Sign #1 is when you walk into a room and then think "Why did I come in here?"

Sign #2 is when your knees pop like bubble wrap being run over by a steam roller and you are just walking up a flight of stairs.


Back on Topic: On Facebook, I saw reports of a 2006 JCW (30k miles or so... well kept) that sold at auction in the UK for over $13k!

 

I could see someone buying this car to mod just because it isn’t a JCW or GP and depending on the mods it could easily be put back to OEM. To use of the car versus keeping the mileage low could be a problem for some but I’m guessing the relative low entry price for such a fun car to drive will result in this car being a fun weekend driver. I’ve seen some cars on BAT go for a whole lot more than I ever thought they would but I’ll guess it goes for $13,500.

 

Sure hope whoever buys it drives the wheels off & has big fun doing it.
