It's funny how good F1 cars look when they aren't muddled under tons of sponsor decals and use simple paint schemes.

 

Now that there is purdy....

 

I like how it says Good~Year on the rear spoiler and has Pirelli tires on the wheels.

I gotta say, the older cars were sure a lot prettier.

 

The really special one for the Brits would be the John Player Lotus cars - black with gold pin-striping became so popular that Ford even offered it as a production option on their Capri (British Mustang equivalent).



I would argue that one of Colin Chapman's greatest innovations was cigarette sponsorship which I think he first started - not perhaps the greatest moral innovation by today's ethics, but a really clever move to be able to buy better technology than the competition. Or did he just copy that idea from the US?

It's surprising that more teams don't go back to single-colour cars - they show up so much better at the ranges that TV cameras work at, whereas the graphic designers seems to think the cars will only ever be seen from less than ten feet away, stationary under bright lights.
