I remember the first time I saw the GTP cars in person. I couldn't believe how small they actually were. You get no real scale from watching them on TV. Had a chance to sit in the GTP-Lights car of local driver Parker Johnstone a couple of years back and I almost didn't fit in it......but I made myself fit!

New 911 is a big girl with big hips....

Not sure how it compares to an 04 996, but driving my friends I was struck by how wide it was. Not sure I'd want to drive one in anger down a forest road.

It is hard to fathom that team Red Bull and Renault are this far behind.....

    From motorsports:

Mar.5 (GMM) Red Bull's early-season technical crisis is plumbing new depths, with news the reigning world champions are calling upon junior team Toro Rosso for help.

Italy's authoritative Autosprint reports that Red Bull has asked the Faenza based sister team for assistance on the all-new 'brake by wire' technology, which is tied in with the highly-sophisticated 'ERS' systems.

"The fact that Red Bull wants to use someone else's (system) says a lot about the size of Red Bull's other problems," said veteran correspondent Alberto Antonini.

One of those bigger problems is with extreme "turbo lag", Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko admits.

"You step on the gas," he told Austrian television Servus TV, "but the power comes all of a sudden, the wheels spin, the car slides and you lose speed.

"We are working with Renault on the test benches day and night to improve the situation for Melbourne," added Marko.

World champion Sebastian Vettel, however, is expecting to struggle next weekend.

"If half the drivers fail to finish, then maybe we could take a few points," he said.

"At the moment we have bigger problems to solve than just the pace."

Isn't Azerbaijan the oil/gas rich part of the former Russian Federation?

Much more so than Ukraine, which is more like Kansas to them.....

Turkey paid for the race but they dropped because of embarrassing low turn out. How would this be any different?

The anti-roll/sway bar is weird - is it really pressing on a link bar between the two lower wishbones, loading that small link bar in bending? OK, that would share anti-roll between the two front axles, but that small bar would have to adjust in length to allow for different suspension travel on the two axles. And why is the bar substantially reinforced transversely, a direction it isn't loaded in, but not vertically? Is its vertical flexibility a major part of the anti-roll bar flexibility?

    Wassup?

Doesn't look out of place to me. The bar attached to each wishbone is a rolled piece thus adding significant strength between the wishbones. It also appears to be able to adjust the location of the drop link front to rear to allow it to differ the load on each axle giving it a bit more fine tuning of the front suspension. A rather innovative design to say the least.

There's a good summary article here about a few of the top 2014 tech innovations.

To help you decide whether to click, here are the topics:

    1. McLaren 'Wishbone Wings'

    2. Lower Beam Wing

    3. Asymmetric Lotus (more so than you might think)

    4. PCU-8D

    5. Lack of Starter Motor Holes (SMH)

This is kind of unusual for the official F1 website, but it's a pretty interesting video. I'd have embedded it if I could, but....

The only thing is, they spend some time trying to justify the double points rule.
