What a great race!
But even with the Mercs cripple it was hard to catch and pass them. If they're healthy, they'll win.
It looks like Perez was holding up the Red Bulls a bit. They could touch him on the straights but they were better in the turns. Just not enough turns in Canada (C ay N ay D ay, heard if from a Canadian )

I looks like every one may end up going past their allocation. You'd think that when you introduce a totally new power package regulation, that is unlike anything else, you would reduce the number of units in the season as well.
F1 wonders why TV ratings are down. :frown2: -
When Hamilton's car broke down, the broadcast had cut to commercial.
Too often when key events happen during a race, the broadcast cuts to commercial. When nothing in particular is happening, I get to listen to the commentators drivel on looking for things to say.
I get the feeling the producer is not a racing fan. .. at least for the Canadian broadcasts. -

The commentators were saying that with the fuel flow regulator the new engines only rev to 12k rpm. That will make a big difference in the sound level 18k to 12k rpm.

New rumor is that Caterham is done and won't be at the next race. No more money.
If F1 wants to reduce cost get rid of the expensive engines (sorry, power packages) -

I'd not heard of this until now. Pretty cool video, though the unfortunate music is unnecessary...feel free to mute, there's nothing useful on the sound track.

Formula One considers adopting standing restarts - Grand Prix racing could spice up its show in 2015
Here's a new one: Formula One is considering implementing standing restarts in 2015 in an effort to increase the action following safety-car periods.
Autosport reports that the idea came about following ongoing talks on how to improve F1's on-track action, and doing away with traditional rolling restarts has been identified as one way to improve the spectacle.
Autosport says its sources confirmed that the change to standing restarts was approved this week during a meeting of the F1 commission, and that “once lapped cars have been allowed to unlap themselves, cars will form up on the grid once a safety-car period has ended. There will then be the same procedure of a standing start as happens at the beginning of races.”
The switch to standing restarts must now simply be ratified by the FIA World Motor Sport Council during a meeting scheduled for next week. -
For a moment I was wondering why have a safety car at all, why not have everyone pit and then have an out-lap to the grid if they wanted to do that, then I realized that the cars engines are not designed for that kind of thing, and that they'd overheat and burn out.
*sigh* -
Formula One to keep Friday practice - F1 commission cannot agree on ways to cut costs
Formula One failed to make significant cost-saving progress at a meeting on Wednesday, Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport reports.
Earlier, it was reported that the F1 Commission, which includes the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone, the teams and other key stakeholders, voted down the proposal to cut Friday morning practice from next year’s race weekend format.
According to media reports in Germany, all but one cost-cutting measure was voted down.
The proposed ban on tire warmers was another victim of Wednesday’s meeting, but Pirelli has offered to pay teams that run its logo on the blankets next year $271,606 each.
So,the only cost-cutting done for 2015 and beyond was in the already tightly restricted area of testing. All preseason testing will now take place in Europe; Bahrain was ruled too expensive a destination.
The eight days of in-season testing has been reduced to four in 2015, with two days reserved for young drivers.
And in 2016, winter testing will shrink from 12 days to only eight, with a total in-season testing ban to once again be enforced.
A team insider is quoted as saying, “Once again, we have failed to save hardly anything, but at least the crazy idea of the shorter weekend is gone.” -

So, did they give him a mulligan on having 4 wheels off at turn 8 on his pole lap? Cause it sure looked like he went off to me.......
Sentimental offering to the gods of F1?
I'm not as enamored of the guy as some folks are, but I sure like that he got to thumb his nose at Ferrari today!
It will be interesting to see if teammate Bottas can hold off Rosbug in the early going and give Flip a chance to get away into clean air, otherwise I'm not sure Williams have much of a chance of winning the race.
Could be a real fun race tomorrow...... -

Yes should be a good race. I really enjoyed quali, very happy Williams got the front row. Got a kick out of Lewis spoiling Nico's flying lap. Pretty sure it was a mechanical issue.
-
Lewis's head is going to explode before the season is over....mean time, Nico's benefiting from the rivalry and is getting better and better every week!! Question is: just how good will he become?[emoji6]
-
A pit crew who likes it's driver will naturally work harder to do well for him, the opposite can occur if they don't.... Not saying they don't like Lewis....but he can be a whiny arsed little prick in public, imagine him when they roll the garage doors down...[emoji23]
Nico has recognised that this is his opportunity to shine and is going about his business doing it.
