Me thinks the sensor company, when talking about the differences in fuel was referring more to LMP where you have different types of fuel being run in the same race and class....isn't Le Man's run under FIA? One sensor for FIA across the board? 2cents
Last line..... "The second thing is the different fuels in Formula 1. In F1, every engine manufacturer has its own fuel.’
I would have thought that F1 would have only one fuel they use, maybe it doesn't all come from the same source since they race on different continents.... That said, per the last last line, me thinks Horner was saying that if a team was "lucky" enough to get a sensor that reads low, then that team could run more fuel and gain an advantage, whilst still seemingly to be operating within the FIA requirements.....
Don't think so. I recently saw video where one of the manufacturers (think it was Ferrari) was talking about how important the fuel partners are now and how closely they're working with theirs to help develop a formula with as many BTUs (or whatever measure they use) as possible within imposed constraints. I don't know the constraints imposed on the fuel formula but I got the sense they have enough wiggle room to feel like it can make a real difference. That's exactly what he is saying (in this article). Of course you can be sure RB have been hoping for that lucky advantage themselves and I assume looking for it as well, maybe only did what they did on Ricciardo's car because they didn't get it.
Wow, wouldn't it cut expenses, and even the playing field if there was a fuel standard? Honestly I always assumed that F1 had a fuel partner that supplied the same fuel to all the teams.....hell Bernie could have been a share holder... Ridiculous, your trying to say F1 is more green and you allow teams to formulate the very fuel they use?
F1 has parameters for the fuel, but each team is free to work within those walls to come up with a fuel that suits their engine. More info - Formula 1® - The Official F1® Website
As of today the three big manufacturers in Le Mans Prototypes have revealed their cars for the 2014 season, the Toyota came out today. Top to bottom, Audi, Toyota and Porsche. We've been talking about weird noses on F1 cars.....look at that Toyota! I know, still better than the F1 noses but those square 'fenders' look pretty strange, right?
Those LMP cars look interesting for sure. The Toyota does remind me of the late 60's Japanese styling, in a word odd.
Bernie must have turned up his hearing aides. F1 sponsored by Miracle Ear. Now that'$ an idea for Bernie.
I think McLaren should start a new trend and have a new sponsor/livery each week McLaren Already Wins Malaysia With Throwback 'Esso' Paint Scheme
Friday 2nd practice..... Mercedes still strong, Ferrari looks better (especially Kimi) Vettel is back to the front and so on....Lotus still miserable. We'll see what happens at Qually.
No race comments yet? I thought there were some interesting sub-plots today: Discrepancy between the Ferrari's in the race Interaction between the William's drivers
As of the 2nd race, the lack of noise is truly killing me. I'm never sure if my audio system is muted or not until a commercial comes on :cryin: It's just sad... And this fuel consumption business. please FIA, just give the guys however much fuel they need to keep their foot in it for the entire race, so they can, you know, race??! Now that messages from our sponsor are out of the way.............. No question Kimi had an issue from the outset-that was not the Kimi-racing I am accustomed to seeing. We will have to wait for him to have reliable mechanicals to see him surface. Hopefully in a race or two. Even after a couple of years of seeing it, it's just very strange not seeing Ferrari drivers on the podium. Red Bull is getting their act together very quickly. There are going to be some exciting races between them and Mercedes this year. Ah, and Massa. I am of two minds on this. It's true he has more than paid his dues living under team orders with Michael, Kimi, and Fernando. However, I also agree with Steve Matchett. The team has way more data than the driver does, and if there is no question in their minds that he is holding up his team mate, well, maybe he should move over. I have no problems with team orders. If a driver wants to do his own thing, he can put up the mega millions to own his own team. When it comes down to it, he is an employee (albeit an extremely important one) just like the guys in the garage and back at the factory.....everybody has a boss....and the ownership cares about team points.. But, boy I have to respect the guy for giving the team the high hard one, and racing his race...
Personally I think the sound would come over the TV better with a little adjustment of the sound balance that is broadcast. There have been some videos posted that sound a lot better than what we have been hearing on TV. I totally agree on the fuel loads....to a point. I agree with the FIA that there should be some standard, but disagree an the means. Give them all a minimum "MPG" , or equivalent, for the whole race and do away with the max allowed fuel flow rule. That way there is a little more engineering and strategy options available.
