This season is in the bucket. No saving it at this point. Move forward & make things better for next season. Knowing how things work we'll see 3 cylinder engines next.
Was seriously planning to make the trip down to Texas this year....now....meh....just watch it on TV.
F1 may not be the show it should be, but the support races are what make the weekend for me. Wish I could go.....
Lotus to Switch to MB Power The word on the street is that Lotus F1 Team, the old Renault F1 factory team, will shortly announce that it will become the fourth Mercedes team, replacing McLaren, and joining Mercedes GP Petronas, Williams F1 and Force India using the German firm’s V6 engines. The news if it is confirmed is a big boost to Lotus, which has struggled with Renault engines. The new means that Renault will be down to three teams: Infiniti Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso and Caterham F1 with the possibility of a fourth supply if the Romanian F1 project goes ahead.
Caterham Sold? There have been reports that the Caterham F1 Team has been sold to a new consortium, involving Middle Eastern/Swiss investors. It is understood that the news will be announced on Wednesday. It is believed that there will be a new team principal, probably someone without F1 experience, and there is to be new technical leadership as well, with the goal being to transform the current car in an effort to grab ninth place in the Constructors’ Championship from Marussia and Sauber. It is not yet clear whether the buy-out will be 100 percent of the team, or a smaller share but it is clear that team boss Tony Fernandes will not be involved in the future, although he will maintain the Caterham road car business.
Well that F56 front end will fit right in with the current odd looking noses on todays F1 cars. :ihih:
Bernie's on a roll. First we got the double points race(s), then standing restarts. Now he wants to let the smaller teams go and have the remaining teams field 3 cars each. And today I read he's ready to drop Monza from the schedule...
I don't mind the engine changes, they need to stay relevant and it brought F1 back to the bleeding edge of technology. Which is right and proper. I do mind the unwise way in which they've been running things, and the stupid rules and the dumb restrictions blah blah blah. Still, I can't say that I mind too much one team dominating a season. Same as it ever was.
Looks like Renault are about to lose Lotus as a 2015 engine customer, leaving them with just 3. Now Horner is talking about RB having options other then Renault for their engine supply next year. He refuses to say what those options are but I think they're in an awkward position. The only other current engine supplies come from Ferrari and Merc. How likely is it RB will get top of the line engines from their closest constructor competitors? I say the odds are slim to none. In fact, make that none. So what other options could they have? Maybe Honda. Don't know whether Honda are keen to supply more than one team in their maiden year. Maybe buying out Renault - it's rumored Renault's F1 engine division is up for sale - and becoming an engine supplier. Given the current state of engine affairs, seems odd to imagine buying the current losing team as being the best way to improve their position. Maybe they've lured another company into the sport. Every year Marko claims VW is thinking about it, but anyone starting from scratch would need to have a program WELL underway already if it's to be of any use in 2015. Unless I'm missing something, I'd say Honda is the most logical alternative. Either that or a much closer partnership with Renault, tied up very soon, focusing Renault's development for 2015 entirely on RB's needs. That would probably piss off Renault's other customers at first, but the improvements would probably benefit them as well.
It's a works deal so McLaren get the good stuff, but it's not exclusive unless no one else comes asking. McLaren says Honda engine deal not exclusive (autosport.com)
Silverstone is coming up so it's time for the annual reminder of the idiot who ran out on the track during the race in 2003.
