Man that was the best race I've seen in a long time. Some great battles going on throughout the whole race.
/\ LMFAO. Nico learned today that he has to take what is his. That said he also kept his cool and his eye on the Championship when Lewis all but wrecked them both blocking him....a move that I don't blame Lewis for doing either....
....so why was Nico complaining to the team that Lewis wouldn't move over when he couldn't get even close enough to try and pass LMAO!!! And Lewis even said if Nico got close enough we would move over.....
Exactly what I meant when I said "he learned that he needs to take what is his." In the after race interview Nico himself said that he himself needed to get it done.... He did not whine one bit about Lewis, he owned it himself.....something that Lewis would never have done by the way... LMAO PS: Don't forget Nico had his own mechanical issues that put him back in the field, and Don't forget the huge amount of time Nico made up on Lewis in the end, running 3 to 4 seconds a lap quicker. Lewis's block was the only thing that kept him behind. Both drove great today, but Alonso proved once again why he is considered the best!!
Nico was really flying at the end & Lewis was in a car that was crippled with tires that were dead shot. However Nico with much fresher tires couldn't pass Lewis. Close racing for sure & I'm amazed Nico couldn't seal the deal & get on the podium. Nico did well to recover from his mechanical problems, but Lewis won this round in my book. It didn't matter to me who won, any of the top 3 really deserved the win. Great drives all! I think if we could put Alonso in a Merc he'd lap the field, how'd he do it today? And a big attaboy to Kimi, finally a good race! It's going to be a long wait for the next race. Can't wait for Spa.
This was by far the best and most competitive race of the season, and there were many drivers that did well today!! If this was a harbinger of what is to come in the second half of the season, 2014 may very well rescue itself...can't wait!!
Interesting battle brewing at Merc. Lauda backing Hammy Wolfe backing Rosberg. That could make bigger explosions than the drivers.
Lewis was totally in the right of it. Nico was at his closest, around .7 of a second behind Lewis and couldn't catch him. If Lewis had let him by, he'd have lost at least 2 seconds on Alonso. Dumb call Mercedes, dumb call. And if Lewis had won, it'd have been the biggest march forward in decades. Even so, it was damn impressive. I do have to wonder what the heck is going on over at McLaren though, staying out on inters when everyone else was on slicks? What radar were they looking at?
Looks like Bernie wants to pay his way out of jail. F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone seeks bribery case settlement (bbc.com) Full article here.
So the cost to promoters of the races has gone up a few million each. Heck they'd pay to have Bernie locked up.
Why is attendance down? Look at the ticket prices. If we were paying what tickets cost at other tracks, I couldn't have afforded to to the Indy race for 7 years.
Great big HD flat screens and pretty darn good TV coverage make ticket prices at all sporting events less and less palatable these days...... Then throw in the fact that races used to be put on for the fans at the track and now fans are treated as little more than TV props and physically going to a race gets less appealing....
I'm sure Bernie would love to turn the races into pay-per-view events. I would think that there would be more money to be made than trying to attract people to attend in person.
I think they did in the with about half the races only available to subscribers of Sky. Not sure tho.
You have to remember that corporations sponsor teams to get their advertising on the cars shown to the public, so smaller TV viewer numbers mean less sponsorship money. Even Bernie knows that killing the goose can cause a golden egg shortfall. Here in Britain, Sky has a dedicated premium F1 channel but all races are broadcast on free-to-view* BBC to get the maximum total viewers, though for many races there is a time delay of several hours. * Free-to-view in Britain still costs money, but you don't want those details as you would be learning about socialism....
