There's a short video of Bianchi's crash, if anyone is interested. Can be seen here. That pic looks really bad but after watching the video I can't even believe he's alive.
Yes, and that begs the question - why was he going that fast in those conditions with double yellow flags waving? I hope he recovers fully but I'm concerned that he may have ended his driving career, if not his life.
A bit early to question what Jules was doing if you ask me. For me all that matters is that he survives & recovers.
I know what you mean, but it's complicated. There are a lot of people trying to decide what happened, from whether race control did all the right things, to whether the flagging was correct and consistent, to what was going through Bianchi's mind, and why. And they should. That wasn't the last race of the season. They should be doing everything in their power to improve on things that might have a chance of helping to avoid this sort of incident, and as soon as possible. After all, the next race is this weekend. On the other hand, it feels wrong now, to me, to point the finger of blame toward Bianchi while he's fighting for his life. On the third side of the coin, the responsible authorities need to view this clinically, without emotion. To take the extreme example, if Bianchi and/or his car are determined wholly at fault, then they can avoid the usual knee jerk over-reaction rule change(s). I don't personally think this is the case (i.e., Bianchi entirely to blame) but they need to consider all unsavory possibilities in order to decide who/what is NOT to blame so they can avoid wasting time and resources fixing what isn't broken. I hope they get it right but it's a complex and thankless job...better them than me.
No doubt in my mind that they are doing the investigation of the accident even since it took place. I too hope they do not do any knee jerk rules changes. The one thing that seems easy to me is keep cranes behind the barriers. Other turns had boom cranes positioned in that way. Why did this corner have a tractor type crane that had to go to the track side of the barriers to retrieve a car? Lots of questions hope the answer is as simple as I think it can be. At the speed Jules went into that corner station I'm wondering if is possible brake failure played into this.
If a tractor or any safety vehicle is on the course there should be a full course yellow with a pace car. <period
I saw the video and debated posting it or not. I'm glad it is posted as a link where you can decide on your own.
Bernie is trying to get the video removed everywhere. Bianchi's head had to have hit the back of the the tractor at high speed. Unless he saw it coming and ducked some. It can't believe he's alive. I hope he can come back next year.
Any read the articles floating around out there with Bianchi's family history? He's a 4th generation racer and not the first one in the family to race F1. However, the family is beset by many racing tragedies... Wiki Article - Jules Bianchi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The press are reporting a 'Diffuse axonal injury' for Bianchi. Nobody is saying the obvious..... 90% mortality rate.......
