I am planning on leaving early Wed am. Guess I will meet up at 500am to travel down with you.
At last check you had Doug and Jeff at 5am. I have Chris, Steven, Dave, Carol, and Pam at 7am. Seth and Blake on Thursday.
That makes a good crew from MoM
Hope all of the MoMer's have a safe & enjoyable trip to the Dragon.
Nick - I will be curious to hear of the status of the object in my signature.....
How about a report from the Dragon?
Pretty big storm last night, pea size hail, tornader warnings, the hard top of the Jeep actually started leaking on my face... B E A Utiful, freeking day though! I swear I loose an eighth inch of tire every time I plow the 6000 pound hippo out of Fontana!
Now its time for a late lunch and a 6er...
I hit things at the right time I suppose....arrived Monday about 3:00 and ran the Dragon and RT28 a couple of times with nary a soul but me.
As Mod mentioned, big rains last night, and continued this a.m., but things cleared up nicely after 11:00 or so. Dragon was 90% dry this afternoon, so I ran it again a couple of times.
I must say, my experience with folks on the Dragon is getting better and better. I come upon a bike, and two cars at differing times and in every case, they moved over as soon as it was safe to do so
Every time I come here, I still can't believe how incredible these roads are. Even the road out of Robbinsville to my cabin is a hoot to drive.
Also, a plug for Michelin Pilot Super Sports. My first time trying them, and the first real test of them since I had them put on my R56. Wow, do these things grip like there's no tomorrow. I even ran the Dragon this morning when it was wet, and they did a really great job....thanks to everyone who recommended I put these on my R56.
This is also the first real test of my R56 JCW since I got it in February....this car was made for these roads. High HP and top end speed mean nothing around these parts....it's all about the chassis and this car has a nice one. There is really nothing like riding a bike on the Dragon-it's just a whole other experience, but the R56 JCW is a close second..
One bummer note. I came upon a 2003 R53 with its hood up on the Dragon. Beautiful light gray color with some great Dragon insignias on the car. Just went dead on them....they are thinking alternator....before I could tell them I would go for a tow truck, a good Samaritan showed up and the tow truck was not far behind him he said...When I came back through, they were gone. Excellent-Mini owners taking care of each other....I like that....
Hey, Z06, thanks for the report. We are living vicariously through you. However, considering that packs of Volkswagen and Mustang fanatics will be running the Dragon this week, I don't think I'd be using that phrase …
Thanks for the update guys. glad everyone rode the storm out.
For those yet to leave watch the top end by tobcat bridge county LEO is passing out vouchers for a return trip. He does appear to be giving more warnings than tickets.
No he did not get me, bird dog told me he was there but I have talked to a couple that had a short meeting with him.....
My V1 picked that LEO on the way back from a trip out to Marysville TN early before I got to him. I was going close to double the posted limit.
I saw him and knew he was ahead looooong before he saw or heard I was coming.:ihih::lol:
I drove by at the post 40 and ended up meeting up with the guys from Helix at the bottom turn around area on the Dragon. As we were sitting and talking the LEO pulled over 3 MINI speeders and handed out $ tickets to everyone. No warnings at all.
Bring you radar detectors or go the posted limit or you will get busted.
The Dragon was wet and covered with crap today from the storm last night but my Dunlop VII's had no issues and gripped very well. I also ran the Foothills Parkway today at a good speed as it was wide open and only had to deal with a few small branches and lots of pine needles.
I can't wate to get there!
Spoke with Frantic Freddy, they just passed 77 on. 81 and we should meet up with them somewhere near Asheville on 40
I had a rear shock mount bolt issue. Not coming down this year.
Have fun and drive safe.
Sorry to hear that. Any chance this also means a trip to NJ this weekend?
Prebuy is on Mon.
Hope it all goes well!
MOMers out to lunch in Townsend.
Just a few of my favorites from this year....
Pre-buy???? The new MINI can be ordered now from a dealer.
Nick, Pam and me on Foothills Parkway Friday.
