Yes, but that's different than going back to the previous formula - in this case they simply eliminated a tech.....that's not the same - they didn't insist on steel or aluminum control arms as the cars had before, for example....

I do understand your point, but I think forward is the right way to go.....

At some point they may eliminate the MGUK in the interests of the show for example, but I doubt they'll go back to pushrods or flathead engines.

I think they should have very specific rules for overall dimensions of the car, open wheel, and maybe how much fuel it can use in a race, then leave the rest up to the teams. That's when we'd see some real innovation and forward thinking, much like we did in F1's heydays.

But that would result in a spending frenzy like we've never seen before.......but maybe instead of spending billions on motor home hospitality suites and jet planes, the money would go into the cars.

It might also help if they'd stop paying the drivers $50 million a season!

Williams run a low downforce setup which gives them great speed on the straights - their chassis is good enough to get them round the corners in the dry without as much downforce as others. But in the wet that low downforce becomes a problem as they can't keep as much heat in their tyres, so have cornering problems.

This isn't my knowledge - I'm just parroting the BBC commentary.

Never, they only started retiring them now that they are giving permanent numbers for drivers.

The driver numbers are permanent and will be used throughout each driver’s career with the exception of the world champion, who will be given the option to use number one the following season.

I thoroughly enjoyed that race. McLaren finally performed pretty well, which bodes well for the rest of the season for them. The cracks are showing at Mercedes so it won't be a cake-walk. Ferrari is an actual contender (though still a bit of a long shot).

Lots of nice action in that one.

How many penalties did Maldanado rack up this time?

Here are links to excellent onboard videos of the start (+) from each of the 4 top qualifiers. Definitely worth the jump.

On this page, in 4 separate videos, Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Ricciardo: https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/features/2015/7/mixed-fortunes---onboard-during-a-pulsating-first-lap-in-hungary.html

And here those videos are combined into one, P1 > P4: https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/video/2015/7/Mixed_fortunes_at_the_front_of_the_grid_in_Hungary.html

    Take your pick.

Trying to get my brain wrapped around what's happening here. :eek6:

Caption is "This is how a rear tyre suffers through Eau Rouge."

Remember when it was Williams dominating? Or Lotus? Or McLaren?

Everybody gets a couple years to shine, and then later they run at the back with 55 place grid penalties.

Yes wake up call. Seems that all the other teams have gotten the a wake up call starting last year. It really is a shame that some have chosen to hit snooze rather than wake up. A few teams seem to be trying. Given enough time they'll catch up. Heck we've seen 2 red car wins this year.

VW group owns both Audi and Porsche. The argument is about why VW group should spend money to have two of its brands beat each other up in WEC. So, some folks think Audi will move to F1 and Porsche will fight on in WEC.

Probably not, just like Rosberg wouldn't stop to add Lewis to the board. I also wouldn't think Seb would have done this for Webba.

I really disliked Seb's personality when he was winning at Red Bull, but I think he has changed (final year at Red Bull seems to have humbled him some) and I actually have enjoyed seeing him do well with the red cars.

Lotus signs agreement with worse engine maker

Lotus has signed a letter of intent to secure less good engines for the 2016 season.

The agreement to sell to Renault will allow the Enstone-based team to get rid of the powerful Mercedes motors it currently uses and replace them with the proven disappointment of French power units once described by Red Bull’s Christian Horner as, ‘Wah wah wah, these are rubbish, wah wah wah, it’s not fair.’

‘Under Renault control and with Renault engines, we could realise the full potential of disappointingness,’ said an insider. ‘Especially in the hands of Mr Crashy.’

Sources say that if Renault power does not deliver the worse results the team is looking for, they are prepared to look at more radical options under a secret plan known as ‘Project Honda’.
