Steve - I think the red glow is the safety light, not the exhaust.

We lost the conversation about the new helmet rule. I'm sure everyone remembers, though, and I figure you'll like this.

Vettel, commenting about the ban on helmet design changes: "If the penalty is just a little fine for charity I'm happy to keep changing my helmets."

And the FIA are investigating the incident.

Magnussen gets to fill in for him.

I'm starting to feel sorry for McLaren. Yet another leak today (hydraulic) forced an engine change and stopped them at just 7 laps.

It's been a rough couple of years for us McLaren fans. I'm hoping that after a couple of races they'll have it all sorted, but those first few are going to be miserable.

That is troubling, but touching that car with loads of volts in it could be the last thing a corner worker ever does.

If they had done it and the engine had a Infiniti badg then that would be great. Infiniti advertise as a sport sedan. What they are doing is like those brats that would hang around big guys so they could pick a fight and let there friends finish the fight for them because they are a p.... :D

A lot of the redundancy is because they sell sponsorship by location and companies are paying for more than one spot. The designers have to make small adjustments for the sponsors, and they can only do so much if the team wants the money.

The best looking cars were the tobacco sponsored cars even though their name was repeated all over the car.

I liked the Marlboro barcode. I thought it was a pretty clever way to sidestep the regs and yet somehow be recognizable.

Well McLaren won't be winning (or finishing) the first four races anyway. Might as well relax and train for when the darn thing actually works. :fingerscrossed:

Ah, the "joys" of being a McLaren fan.... :mad2:

Ahhhh.....the CART races in the 80's and 90's. Meeting the drivers, shaking hands, autographs, sitting in a back-up car (did that in Lynn St. James car at PIR! ! !)

Here's an unusual view. Took me a few seconds just to work out where the camera is sitting.

That last sentence, to me, is the main reason Bernie needs to go away.....at least 15 years ago.

Ecclestone frustrated by Formula 1 spending (gpupdate.net)

    2015 F1 drivers helmets in pictures - F1 Fanatic

Some nice designs in there, but also the usual sponsor laden visual barf.

    I especially like Valtteri Bottas'.

But for sleek, classic looks, both the Sauber boys win.

Yup, and good racing is entertaining, no doubt about it. The question is, which comes first? What's important about a racing series? It has to be viable and when excessively large budgets are required to keep it going that means it has to be entertaining enough to bring in revenue. But you don't need to make money hand over fist to fill pockets of people who aren't involved in either the racing or the show. Bernie now thinks of it as a show that exists -- not just first and foremost but entirely -- to make BIG money for people who are already rich. To him, it's an entertainment show. Entertainment he can sell to the highest bidder(s). The racing itself (and the tech, the rules, and the "glamorous ladies") is only important insofar as it improves the dollar value of his traveling show. There's no doubt in my mind that if he had his way he'd be able to decide who gets to win each race as well.

Maybe this isn't commercially viable anymore (and it certainly won't happen while the 'show' is owned by money grubbing investors) but I wish they'd put someone in charge who thought of the entertainment side of the sport as nothing more than a way to keep the series interesting to fans and participants, and funded and running.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd be amused if when he pulls into the pit, that the crew just sits there, finishes their coffee, and casually wanders over to ask what he wants.
