Yup, Vettel splitting the Mercs in only the second quali actually means something. No way to know how much yet, particularly because it was rain effected, but good signs.
Hopefully it means we'll see some good stuff tomorrow, even if it's just Raikkonen mixing it up from the middle of the pack. The grid is a bit mixed up already which always helps.

The Manor's will run too.

Anyone else staying up for the race? We could do a Google Hang Out to discuss.

That sounds fun but it's DVR for me. I'm trying to force myself back to more normal waking hours. Getting to sleep consistently earlier than 3AM is just the beginning, and a 4AM start time would seriously screw with what little progress I've made.

Okay, so I guess it starts earlier than 4AM. Apparently formula1.com needs to fix their timer. Glad I checked when setting the DVR.

Yep, they had the pace, they had a good strategy and the right driver. Great to see Vettel back on form and taking the fight to the Mercedes boys.
I'm also encouraged by Kimi's pace during the race after coming from dead last after getting a flat on the first lap. He needs to improve his qualifying, but if he does he'll be right there too.
On top of that there were great challenges all down the pack the whole race.
I'm very impressed with Toro Rosso's teenagers this season, so far they've made the varsity team look pretty bad......
Lotus is still woeful, even with Mercedes power......and Alonso can talk all he wants about it being a learning year, but Button was faster than him on track today too.
All in all, a very fun day in F1! -

I figured to see the race we did today it would have had to be a wet race. Not so all it took was Benz screwing up their strategy & Ferrari having a car that was close enough. Vettel drove a fine race as did Kimster. Oh how I wanted the second red car to land on the podium.

This was the first F1 race I've watched flag to flag in I can't remember how many years. Real difference in the product when P1 - P4 aren't known when they line up at the starting grid.

From motorsports:
Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo believes the team's former management deserves credit for Sebastian Vettel's victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Maranello squad changed team principal twice during 2014, while di Montezemolo was replaced as Ferrari president in September. Team principal Stefano Domenicali left in April, while his replacement, Marco Mattiacci, stepped down in November and was replaced by Maurizio Arrivabene. Vettel ended Ferrari's victory drought on Sunday at Sepang, giving the team its first win since 2013. Di Montezemolo believes the victory is, in part, the result of the decisions made early last year. "This is the reward for hard work. It began on this car in Maranello in February 2014, and was then picked up by those who run the Scuderia now," di Montezemolo told Italian media. "This victory is perhaps also due to some small errors by Mercedes, but also to all those who planned the car and engine last year." The Italian, now Alitalia's president, admits he was surprised Ferrari was able to win again so soon. "I am very happy," he said. "I did not expect that the team would win so quickly." -

So they're running the worst performing chassis AND the worst performing engine to showcase their technological might?
Looks like HAAS made a good move linking up with Ferrari after all. -
