Sources close to BMW have revealed the upcoming 2015 MINI JCW will offer "around 230 bhp." Previewed by a near-production concept, the all-new 2015 MINI JCW will reportedly make the switch from a 214 bhp 1.6-liter turbo to a newly developed 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. It's derived from BMW's B48 engine also found in the warm Cooper S where it develops 189 bhp (141 kW) and 206 lb-ft (221 lb-ft with overboost). In the range-topping John Cooper Works version, the motor will be further tuned to generate 230 bhp (172 kW) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. The engine will work with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a revised 6-speed automatic transmission, with both of them being sourced from the Cooper S. The model will allegedly be introduced in January 2015 at NAIAS in Detroit where MINI will also bring the JCW five-door hatchback. Source - 2015 MINI Cooper JCW to have 230 bhp - report
I wonder what the odds are of the 2.0 liter engine making its way into the twins before they're phased out?
Bet 0% Platforms are different.... Be like putting a gen2 prince motor into a gen1 cabrio ....they too were built sided by side for the 2007+2008 model years.....but the engine change had to wait for the platform change with the new model....
totally agree...I would have had a GP2 in my garage instead of a JCW if that motor had 270hp +. I do not understand why BMW is so conservative with the HP increase for their highest performance model? No excuses on the F56 since it is "their" motor now. Based on all the aero pieces I saw on the JCW concept, they are in danger of earning the moniker "all show and LITTLE go"...
They don't want it have more hp than the BMW version. The '89 SHO was rated at 220hp so it would be less than the Mustang. It really put out 230-240hp. The 189 tq is nice though.
