Don't think Kvyat is doing it on purpose, just extemely over excited and pushing things way to hard. We have seen it before, look at Vettel himself in the first year or two and how could anyone forget Grosjean ' s first couple years... Not making excuses for him, just hoping he learns from this and finds that fine line of aggressiveness, if not, he needs to go bye bye.

Agreed. Grosjean got a hard lesson that got him to reevaluate his driving. He even said he is better for it.

We don't need another crashtor. Not to be confused with crashton.

If you have a problem get the heck out of the way don't slow down in turn 3 on the start with a whole pile of fast cars right on top of you. He slowed down while those behind were flat to the floor. Quite a speed differential there. I'm sure that was an unexpected move to all the drivers behind him. The fact he was hit again didn't surprise me one bit.

Looking at the car cams on the F1 website, it appears on the first hit, Kvyat was just going too fast and locked his brakes. At turn three, the car in front of Vettel had slowed to make the turn and Vettel had to slow. Kvyat looked like he was accelerating into the corner and ran into Vettel. Kvyat had room to go wide around Vettel, but looked like he got himself caught in the slip stream.

Hopefully he'll learn from this and not follow in Maldonado's footsteps.

On the other hand, is the F1 season over yet? Same results all four races. 2 Mercedes and 1 Ferrari on the podium. L-o-n-g season ahead.

Confirmed: Verstappen replaces Kvyat at Red Bull
By Chris Medland, 05/05/2016 at 08:33 News, Red Bull Racing 1 comment

Max Verstappen will replace Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull with immediate effect, the team has confirmed.

Red Bull has moved following Kvyat's performance in the Russian Grand Prix, where he ran in to the back of Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari on two occasions, taking the four-time world champion out of the race. The incident also compromised team-mate Daniel Ricciardo's race, leaving Red Bull without points from the fourth round of the season.

With Verstappen a target for Ferrari in the future and Red Bull keen to safeguard the young Dutch driver, it has decided to promote Verstappen immediately, with Kvyat set to race for Toro Rosso in next weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

“Max has proven to be an outstanding young talent," team principal Christian Horner said. "His performance at Toro Rosso has been impressive so far and we are pleased to give him the opportunity to drive for Red Bull Racing.

“We are in the unique position to have all four drivers across Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso under long term contracts with Red Bull, so we have the flexibility to move them between the two teams.

“Dany will be able to continue his development at Toro Rosso, in a team that he is familiar with, giving him the chance to regain his form and show his potential.â€

Kvyat's demotion comes despite the Russian driver scoring a podium at the Chinese Grand Prix one race earlier

It will be interesting to see how Kvyat does back at Toro Rosso. Putting Max in a Red Bull that can run closer to the front of the field will be interesting. Max is fast, but we could see his youthful exuberance get in the way. I hope he does well, I'd love to see him beat on the red cars.

Wow......well I have to admit Kvyat has not been living up to his potential - last season he was dismal the whole first half, and this season he's been erratic.

Wonder how Sainz feels about all this?

This may be as much about keeping Verstappen with RB after this year as much as what or what Kvyat hasn't done. Apparently there was some clause in Verstappen's contract that at the end of this year he could jump ship if he wasn't on the varsity team, and apparently with the boys in red interested, RB wanted to sew him up, and Kvyat's actions gave them the excuse... F1 is a tough business, and RB has proven they have no real loyalty to anyone beyond what they are doing for them today. Look how they publicly threw Renault, a motor manufacturer that powered them to multiple championships, under the bus last year....

Not a Kyvat fan, but to go from a podium to being demoted to the B team in a couple races stinks.

What happens to the team championship points? Kvyat has 8 points more than Verstappen and RB are only 6 points ahead of Williams. Do the driver points follow the drivers and change the team totals? If so, RB would drop to 4th, a couple points behind Williams and TR would move up to 5th ahead of Haas.

My guess is the teams each keep their points as they were earned up to now and the usual simple method of determining constructor points at any moment in time (i.e., adding together that team's drivers' total points) is just a bit more complicated for those two teams this season.

I also wonder about things like power unit use to this point and projected tire allocation for however many races in advance tires must be chosen this year.

Isn't it 2 different championships. One for the Drivers, the other for the Conductors. Everyone keeps their points as they stand now as I see it.

I'm curious to hear Verstappen and Kvyat's thoughts on the differences between the cars and power plants after their swap. That is, if Hornet and Marko haven't told them to keep their mouths shut.

Everyone expects the Toro Rossos to start falling down the grid as the season progresses and the other teams (like Renault, RedBull and Hass) get power upgrades.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't been told to keep his mouth shut. The only good I can see coming from this is that it will be less confusing talking about the Red Bull drivers by first name. Other than that I still think it's a pretty lousy thing to do to the guy.

Insert rant about injustice here. :incazzato:
