Any opinions on the Vettel, Raikkonen, Verstappen sandwich on the first lap?

I believe the 18 year old was thinking outside the box!

I think Max was a little opportunistic on that pass, he was completely off the track to the inside, and I don't think Vettel knew he was doing that or he wouldn't turn in on Kimi like that, Vettel thought he only had Kimi to the inside and that he left him room, but when Max squeezed Kimi there was no where to go.

I blame youth, adrenaline and unfortunate circumstances.
Vettel left room for Raikkonen, not Raikkonen + 1. But why not? What would cause him to assume Raikkonen had no where to go? On the other hand, he does refuse to share any of the blame. He could have gone wider (and if he knew Verstappen was there he maybe should have?) but contact avoidance wasn't really his responsibility, technically, given he was leading the other two. In hindsight I'll bet Arrivanene would have preferred it given the outcome, even for Vettel, was worse than it would have been if Vettel had gone wide and ceded the position.
Raikkonen, who (I think) had the racing line, was stuck in the middle and blameless.
Verstappen, because he was behind the other two, both 1) had the better view and therefore better awareness of the situation (did he think the Ferrari's couldn't turn in that tightly so there would be room?) and 2) bore the greater burden of responsibility of contact avoidance...I think?
Interestingly (coincidentally?), after the race Toto Wolff said Verstappen's driving reminds him of Senna. He's not the first to make that comparison. -
Max says it wasn't his fault.

Very aggressive of Max with four wheels off, that said, Vettel turned in on Kimi too... Seb being the four time champion, me thinks Seb is just as much at fault as Max.
Kimi did have a right to complain about Max's blocking moves later if we are going by the letter of the rules, which apparently is about as firm as jello from one race to the next... -

I just rewatched the start (here's the official highlight reel) and now I'm not sure what I think. Maybe the stewards got it right.
-
I didn't think Max had four off until Kimi pinched in trying to avoid Seb. Not sure if Max would have been able to cleanly complete the move, but don't doubt that Kimi would have been able to avoid contact if not for Seb turning in to him.

I though Max had 4 wheels off & his first turn move was pretty low percentage for a good outcome. He is a real charger & that is great. His blocking on the other had will get him in trouble sooner or later. Either a crash or being sent to the woodshed.
Kevin Magnussen sure was lucky. When I saw his cockpit surround fly out of his car I though of fark no. He has to be one very sore boy. -

Max was aggressive. May be a little too much. But that first turn incident was all Seb's fault. I have no idea what he was thinking. Even if Max wasn't there he would have hit Kimi.

I was hoping for someone different this year. But no one can over come the Merc advantage. -
And you didn't have to go far out on that limb for that pridiction...lol -

Yes it is a pretty safe bet. :fingerscrossed: Just wait the tables will turn nothing is permanent.
As far as skill in the rain. When it rains driver talent counts for more that the fastest car. Not sure why Nico lacks that skill set. He's good, just not as good.
