Congrats to Nico. Both on his winning the championship and seizing the opportunity to retire on top.
Wished I could do that.

My favorite reaction so far is from Kelly McNish (wife of retired driver Allan):

Rosberg:

That is a very good quote and I am happy for him.
This also puts a new perspective on his odd radio message about wanting Lewis to let him pass, but promising that he would give the position back at the end of the race. -

Showing a bit of class here.
Rosberg had told Hamilton about F1 exit already (motorsport.com)

So he's freed up to join Nascar.

Merc say they won't start thinking about a replacement until Monday. I say that's BS, they might not be making many calls yet but there's no way the heads aren't at least thinking about it. Meh, maybe it's just semantics.
Anyway, here's Joe Saward's initial take on their options.
So now what? (joesaward.wordpress.com)

Ironically, Merc is one of the few teams he could conceivably drive for since his backers in Venezuela no longer have money to throw around so he can't pay for his seat. Do NOT get the impression from this that I think he has any chance, at all, I'm just commenting on the irony. -

Speaking of irony, if that's the right word, there are Rosberg haters who are angry at him for retiring.
Means Hamilton won't get the chance to beat Rosberg next year. Apparently it's not enough that Hamilton has every chance to win the DC next year anyway, they want him to be able to prove this year was an aberration by "taking it back". -

I'm not a fan of all the carnage but there are some excellent clips in here.

When I saw Alonso crash in Australia I figured he would be racing with Jules in heaven. Seeing it again all I can say is wow what a lucky guy he is.
