Got ya. I misunderstood before. I've seen though that they have done something with the current motors that is making them more efficient overall. I suspect it's improved manufacturing etc. Less lost energy in each piston stroke, that kind of thing.
I just read an interesting idea for the new qualifying format. I guy wrote after seeing a video of a Veyron changing color. That the car that gets knocked out should change color to something like bright lime green. That way fans will know who's done and when. I like it. Make it happen Bernie.
They could easily do those number boards on the cars like Indy uses. Simple solution, but F1 will come up with something much more complex that costs teams a million or so.

I've seen a few photos and they all show a different yellow so I'm not sure how bright to expect it to appear on the track. Looks like a close match to the Pirelli yellow, though. I'd guess it looks more like the brighter version below but given Renault call it golden yellow... Whatever, it looks pretty good and will be easy to discern.
Vettel names all his F1 cars. He named his new Ferrari "Margherita". Any guesses what Kimi will name his? Odds makers say he'll go with "Car".
Unless I'm seeing things, there's some unusual asymmetry at the rear of the new Renault. I'm sure there's a story there.
It may not look like much but on F1 cars the only asymmetry is usually under the bodywork. Never anything so significant side to side that would unbalance the aero. However, there may not be any story here after all. Apparently the car they used for the new livery reveal was a bit of a Frankenstein's monster of their 2015 car. The most commented on odd area being the nose, which is different than both the 2015 and 2016 version (or, at least, the 2016 version they ran during testing). So, that asymmetry at the rear may just be a result of bolting on whatever version of left and right 2015 sidepods they had laying around.
Lots of racing this weekend, first f-1 round and one of my favs, the 12 hrs somewhere in Fla. Tis the season!
This morning they were talking about how the AM deal may mean that RB is making their own engine for next year.
For as much of that swill they $ell I'm sure they could whip up an engine. I'm surprised they haven't done it already.
