Favorite radio message of the day "Paddy, I'm actually in the lead right now and I'm quite comfortable". I think he did what he did because it was his only shot at changing the outcome of the race. He knew Nico wasn't going to try and pass him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually if Max hadn't fallen off and there were a threat to fall to fourth, Nico might have pressed the issue and attacked Hamilton. As it were, third was the threat and that still would have won Nico the championship. Albeit Nico did defend second when Sebastian made that one move... Either way it was obvious that both Mercs had much more speed in them.
I guess if you don't like the guy he drove like a jerk. As most know Lewis drove a good race & did the only thing he could do. Too bad it didn't give him the result he had hoped for. It was up to the guys who started in the 2nd & 3rd row to help him win, but Nico had them covered. Next year should be interesting with the changes to the cars. Lets hope the apple cart gets upset & we see some new winners & hear some new whiners.
It was hard to watch, but Lewis was trying to win the Championship...it's done. Actually a better strategy might have been to let Nico take the lead at the start and force him to set the pace whilst I, from his rear spoiler, try and pressure him into a mistake... Who knows..
Mercedes brass would have had a kitten if'n he would have done that !! Lewis was in a no win situation no matter what he did.
This chart didn't come with any explanation so no way to know what bold or italics mean but still interesting to some of us. The colors are easy to work out. Yellow is P1, gray is P2 and orange is P3, that's the podium, and green for the rest of the points paying positions, 4-10. White for a DNS, pink for a retirement, purple for all other classified finishers. Anyone remember when Kvyat and Verstappen swapped seats? I think it was after Kvyat did poorly in his home GP (Rus).
That's why I said Nico should have taken Hammy out in the first corner, with extreme prejudice! :biggrin5: The reason I said Hamilton was a jerk in this race is because he was doing it to his teammate- it's one thing to do this to a competitor on another team - but I think it showed exactly how he is - out for himself and no one else. You all were agast when Vettel passed Mock Weeber under Multi 21......how is this not the same or worse?
After that snide remark I was hoping Paddy would of got back on the radio on Lewis' channel and said, "Nico, if you get close enough to Lewis take him out!" Just to F'k with him.
I would agree with you if he was not still fighting for the championship. Mercedes had to know that he wasn't going to just hand Nico the title. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lewis did this to his teammate, oh yes he did. The same teammate that drove him off the track in Spain giving him a DNF that ultimately cost Lewis the championship. He tried that again in Austria, but didn't quite get the job done. As I said before Nico did not have the balls to knock Lewis off track to win at the first turn. It sucked when Prost did it, it sucked when Senna did it & it would suck again had it happened yesterday. The luck was with Nico this year, but he kind of made his luck.
What I find incredulous is when Lewis or his fans blame MB for failing him this year.... Excuse me, but if it were not for MB and his team would he have had a chance at winning the Championship this year, or winning it the last two years. Someone please tell me which team he could have driven for the last three years that he could have beaten MB in?
I have no issue with MB, just with Nico running into his teammate. Yes they were/are the ride to have until something better comes along. I for one thought Lewis was nuts for leaving Mclaren to go to MB. Shows how much I know.
I like this interview with Keke Rosberg. Keke Rosberg Q&A: 1982 champion ends six-year media blackout (motorsport.com)
Rosberg is a worthy champion. Mechanical failures are significantly less likely than they used to be, but are still a part of the sport. That said, the engine failure in Hamilton's car at Malaysia was really the nail in the coffin; it was a 25 point swing. So, yeah, the team let him down. I know who I would put my money on to win a race when it is absolutely necessary.
I doubt this will happen, but it seems I'm not the only one who thought Hamilton's behavior both during and after the Aby Dabby race was unsportsmanlike and downright "A$$holish" "This is a mechanical sport," Wolff insisted. "You need to win and to lose with dignity." http://nextgen-auto.com/Hamilton-faces-sack-over-Abu-Dhabi-behaviour,111910.html
They should drop Nico before Lewis, especially with the new car coming. If it is not dominant like the current car, I think you will see Nico struggle more than Lewis. I also think that if the field catches up with Merc, Lewis will leave and go on to win another championship with his third different team.
