I've owned 3 Miatas, and I was really looking forward to this event - which turned out to be the worst product unveiling I have ever seen. Where are the engine and chassis specs? What's the real projected weight? Where are the details on production? How about some better views of the car while Duran Duran Duran Duran droned on?
I didn't get any more tonight than I got from the "accidental" release of the drawings last night.

The blue one looks like a clown shoe... The red one doesn't...
The blue one looks like it's nose meets "Pedestrian Safety" standards.... The red one doesn't look like it but does....-

The hard top Z3 is exactly why I doubt Mazda would do a hardtop hatch. It was a love or hate it reaction for BMW, and I think Mazda only is going for the love it crowd. I would love to see removable hardtop option for the new Miata though, the retractable one is too heavy, unless they've got more magic up their sleeve.

I had two NBs and liked them both. I like this new one very much and it will get my attention when it becomes available.

Thanks guys, it handles very well with a two inch wider wheelbase and almost exact length as our old E46, it has a very sporty stiff suspension and corners flat. With the electric assist steering Mazda was able to put a ton of castor in it which reduces the mid turn push that front wheel drive cars are known for... Having to resist the mod bug on this...but I am slipping a few things past the wife...lol

The current generation Miata is fastest on a 15x9 inch wide rim (a few were testing 15x10s, that may end up even faster). Small diameter, bigtime width, that's where it's at. MINI is the same.
I've instructed in a BRZ at Road America; it's good as is, but that car is just begging for wider, stickier tires, and another 100WHP.-

The flip side is that the Miata chassis in the past has been able to handle much, much more power, and this one should be able to too. If you can have a 300HP Miata that gives vette's fits, well, that's a good thing.

They get stuck in the snow, slide off the road in the rain or just loose it and crash for no reason. So much for progress is better because a car cannot make stupid people less stupid.-

Depending on whose definition you use, the Miata can also be considered mid-engine. The front engine is mounted 'behind' the front axel.
