"Mazda shaved roughly 220 pounds off the outgoing model — an impressive feat given the existing car weighs only about 2,500 pounds. It also lost 3 inches in overall length and half an inch in width, a profile closer to the original model."

I'm not a big fan of Mazda's latest grille shape and was hoping they would do something different here. Doesn't look so bad on the front of this one though, maybe it'll grow on me.

To my eyes the front looks good. At least it's no longer the joker from batman face. I really do not care for that screen sticking out of the dash. Looks bad on the Mazda 3 & looks worse here. Over all I think it looks much better than the outgoing car.

Not look'n so much like a chick's car any more. Nice.

We'll see what happens this weekend, but I doubt we'll get into the serious nitty gritty until the Chicago car show. -

I love the new look. Now give it some power to go with it and no body will claim it's a click car anymore. Roamer is that they are looking at a coupe version. It would be lighter than the vert.

I like it, and would really like a coupe version probably. I would shoot the shooting brake version right where it sits. Never will understand why anyone would want that BMW thing above, much less a Miata version.. If you need more room buy something else!! Like a MINI haha!!! Just hope by the time it reaches us in 1.5 years or so it doesn't gain weight once they move the steering wheel to the other side for us U.S. folks.. ( Think MINI Coupe, lost the back seat but gained 58 pounds )

The steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Make it a limited edition model and charge a premium for it (maybe even use the Porsche model of stripping it of all but the bare options and charging a premium) and I would bet that they could make a profit. -

There are a few official specs avail over at Jalopnik and I suspect they'll update as they find more...though it may be a while before there's anything more other than speculation. Full press release in the comments.

BMW can afford to do stupid stuff, lots of folks are willing to buy whatever BMW/MINI puts out. Mazda can't afford to make a mistake.
Looking closely at the pictures of the new MX5 I don't see the classic hard top attachment points on the rear deck. Looks like the third brake light would interfere too. That being said I bet there's a hard top coming along. -

Wonder if they will bump up the HP to BRZ numbers of 200 or alittle better!!! Currently at 167 or something like that... I wish they would but doubt they will jump it 30-35 hp..
