I didn't buy a kit, but I have the original chrome line interior package from MINI. The chrome trim really sets off the interior nicely by adding definition to each instrument and trim piece.

    Thanks Tampadave,
Ive seen the oem version and I agree, looks tres spiffy. I'm sure the aftermarket version from minimania looks the same, my concern is with how well it sticks on to the standard non-chrome pieces with the adhesive they describe. Could be cheesy.

The relatively cheap stick on stuff, IMHO, looks like cheap stick on stuff. Cheesy is kind, it's worse than that. I've only seen it on the R53, but I doubt it looks any better on the R56.

I'd either get replacement OEM bits, or skip it.

^^^ +1 Go for the OEM pieces, you aren't going to be happy with the stick on stuff.

What about wrapping the pieces in a chrome vinyl?

The chrome OEM chrome in the MINI does look great IMHO--much better than than any of the other OEM looks, gives it a classic look, especially the center stack area. Finish it off with a polished Whalen shift knob, it's a sweet look.

I'm toying with the idea of taking mine all out though, and painting it the same orange as my roof, the surrounds that have been painted roof or body color always looks awesome.

Hey if you do that let me know... I will trade you! Ive got the regular silver line stuff and need the chrome for my next installment, plus its easier to paint over paint rather than chrome.

Yeah, sounds good. More likely than not I will do it--here's the thing though, from what I understand some of the bits are likely to break when they come off--like the speedo surround in particular, so I may have to just order that--but the rest come off easy, and if I do it, (I will if I keep this car, that's what I'm sorting out at the moment)--it will probably be a winter project--we can swap what doesn't break.

I'm black'n out all the silver. I do agree the OEM chrome is the better way to go if you're going to do chrome.
