How about a 3,500 bhp Mini Cooper? Cummins has announced it will reveal a 3,500 bhp Mini Cooper at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. In case you're not familiar with Cummins, it's one of the largest independent maker of diesel engines. The QSK78 engine, which powers the Cummins Mini Cooper, weighs 11 tons and is currently the largest diesel engine made in the UK. Apparently someone had to ask if the larger than the moon engine can be fitted into a Mini, so Cummins made it possible. Here are some specs for the Cummins Mini Cooper. It's powered by a 78-liters, V18 engine developing 3,500 bhp, as mentioned before, and 14,000 Nm of torque. The Cummins Mini Cooper also has 12 turbochargers. the engine was originally developed to power huge industry dump trucks capable of carrying 360 tons. Steve Nendick, Cummins’ Communications Director - Europe, Middle East, Africa and CIS, takes up the story: “We never like to let a challenge go by unanswered so we got to thinking maybe we could fit the QSK78 into an original Austin Mini. It proved to be a bit tricky to fit under the bonnet but our engineers came up with a more creative solution. “We’re certain that the Goodwood crowd will have difficulty believing what they are seeingâ€, he said.
Looks like they used the Mini OEM tranny:lol: Plus it won't roll very well if those support blocks have to stay on it. Mark
reminds me of when they reintro'd the VW Bug and there was a billboard on one of the expressways - "0-60? yes"
Europe get's all the nice diesels. I'm sure MINI still isn't going to offer this as a US spec'd version for us.:incazzato: MINI is just a big tease.
