A diesel would be nice but have you looked at the price of diesel lately? I have and my little F350 Dually took about $80 for half a tank yesterday.

I paid $3.05 a gallon for premium two days ago, here in Columbia SC

That is what it is on my side of the mountain. On the other side it is $3.59. Now we are only talking about 10 miles.

Oh no.......OR has a rather large ethanol subsidy so all we can get is E10 (other than a few independent stations that have E-free gas, but no premium...:frown5:)

Really. I thought all Chevron was e-Free. There are no Cheveron stations anywhere near me, as E-10 would be nice. :frown5:

    $4.19/gallon for premium here.
There is a new racetrack nearby, they say they will have ethanol free premium available soon. I don't know how much it will cost though.

There is a Federal mandate of no more than 10% ethanol.

It's not. The most there can be in US fuels dispensed as gasoline is 10%. One can buy E-85 but it must be a Flex Fuel vehicle. The pump is different looking and has this plastered on it.

In the US there is no E-20 at this time.

We as a nation here in the US have no collective memory. Gas prices drop some and we run out to buy trucks and SUV's. Gas prices go up and we go buy small cars.

What we need is flat cost for gas. Say $5.00 gal for regular. To get there set the Fed Gas tax to be flexible, when the spot market drops, the tax increases to keep the cost level.

    Why...

Our roads and bridges are suffering. There has not been an increase in the Federal Gas Tax in something like 20 years. This money is earmarked to fund highway maint and construction. The Highway Fund cannot begin to keep up with revenues needed to keep up with maint, much less build new.

We need to take a fresh look at how we are going to maintain what we have now along with build for the future. The problem is that it would political suicide to propose a Gas Tax increase. None of these career politicians can do this, they will get voted out and then have to work for a living.

Sure, a tax like I mention is regressive but we need to do something and this is my idea.
