400 (registered) Mini's in one place.... Now It's a PARTY.... Odd, I noticed that about 20 + Minis weren't registered in the MOTD 2008, also the some MOTD Staff didn't appear to be Registered, being Registered not a big thing, but just trying to get an idea, of actual count, People and of Minis. Well, hoping to see 500+ Minis, It appears Minis vs the Mazdas (DGRR), 120 registered (Apri 28-May1 DealsGapRotaryRally.com returns to the Dragon http://tailofthedragon.com/calendar.html http://tailofthedragon.com/index.html the above site, pretty good info, It will be Fun and Busy on the Dragon this year, Just Drive Safe.
415 Mini Coppers in One Place , NICE...... 415 Mini Coppers in One Place , NICE...... Still 47 days to go, I believe 500 + Minis. I noticed that a lot Local Club's don't promote the MOTD, I find it odd, but it's any guess as to why. So which CLUBS will be represented at the MOTD this year?
While it's nice that clubs participate, it started as a grassroots clan of individuals who drove MINIs and enjoyed driving on the TOTD. I first came down in the Fall of 2004, and met some of the original organizers who suggested that I return in May, 2005. I've been coming ever since...representing myself. We've had more than 500 before, but large numbers clog the roads and rooms are really scarce, too. Also lost in the big number participation is the closeness that was there when we first started out.
I agree and it was my first year. This year could be a lot diffident, so we shall see. Still pumped about it. Jim
Crowded So go later in the summer, or in the Fall. Grassroots is fine, and all, but if they don't grow and flourish, then they die off....never to be heard of again. MOTD has grown HUGE, but you can still search out and find your "closer" group of friends from afar. Or, make NEW friends - some of whom are first time buyers/first time drivers of the Dragon.
I don't understand your point. I go every year to MOTD, and I've gone in the summer, too. I participate and do the Cigar Salon. Many of my friends from past MOTDs still go, too, but many more now go in the Fall. BTW, if it wasn't for the grassroots efforts starting MOTD in the first place, you wouldn't be sniping now.
Oh heck yeah! This will be MOTD #4 and all three previous years have been great no matter how many cars are around!
Ok, I feel the urge to say something. As one of the original "grass roots" folks who went down there in 2003, and having attended every MOTD since, I will say this: Yes, the more cars, the more crowded the roads are. That's a given. Is it worth griping about? No, it is not. Embrace change because it's inevitable. Every MOTD is different, and as one of the original attendees, I have learned to go with the flow and enjoy myself.
Personally, I could care less about the crowded roads and all. I know the roads I like to travel on, and I take a lot of "unknown" roads to me, just to go exploring. I just miss some of the original gang, but, as you say, "that's life", or some facsimile thereof. On the otherhand, to be told to 'go be with your old friends' is just wrong. I HAVE made new friends here among the newer people, so it's not really a problem for me. As you can see, I keep coming to MOTD.:cornut: Besides, everyone needs to smoke a good cigar every now and then, if for no other reason than to kick back after a long day's driving and relax [Sponsor's shameless plug for the Cigar Salon!].
