Not to worry, backups are the first order of business after I turn off access. After being verified, then work shall commence.
Now for the geek part...
We did figure out exactly what caused the previous loss of data. Besides the production site there is a test site, both run off a different database. Somehow a line was added to a config file to point the production site to the test database during the migration. This was not found before as it was not in an area of the config file where one visits often. When I ran a script the copy the production db and rename to the test db it did so, however the site had been running for ~1.5 months on the test db. The script did the right thing but with the wrong data.
To fix this the plan is to bring the site down, back everything up, move the back ups to the desktop and verify. Once verified the config will be edited to point to the proper location again and the test db will loaded to production. This will also fix an issue where we lost a sponsor or two from the directory. In fact, when trying to figure out that issue we found the db naming issue.
Mystery of why the data was lost in the Great Data Debacle of '10 solved. -

Ok, that went very well. Took the site down a few minutes before 10AM CT and we made the changes needed. Site back up as of 10:07AM CT.

About 10 minutes ago the site was down, now it's back up. Does that mean everything went OK?
