Holy cow! That's astonishing! I have to say I am very thankful that our tsunami was pretty much a non event, but very good practice. My thoughts go out to everyone touched by this.

The devastation in Japan is pretty horrid and often people want to give money to help. Beware that there are some out that want to take your money. Always check out the organization you want to donate to before hand.
Make sure you ask these questions before sending a check or giving out your credit card number over the phone or online:
• Is the charity or fundraiser registered with the state?
• What is the name, address, and telephone number of the organization asking for the donation?
• Exactly how will the donation be used?
• What percentage of the contribution will actually be spent on the charitable purpose of the organization?

Someone I follow on twitter posted a link to this first person video. (The content is safe for work) Truly humbling stuff.
