This SR-71 that Lourie is sitting in the Engine is the Famous Retired #972
Aside from the speed records it holds there are things that this specific Plane did that are still classified today. -

Also at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio.
That plane (SR-71A) gives me goosebumps......

Long story (which I have already told elsewhere on this site), but I actually climbed all over an SR-71 back in 1969 while it still had a Top Secret classification. Wrong place, at the right time and that really is one bad a** airplane.

Got ta one upya...In 1965 stationed at Anderson AFB Guam, my dad (Pilot HC-130 special duty) brings me along with him to the flight-line while he was on alert status. In a short trip via van with no windows I am escorted to a secured well guarded hanger at the end of the runway. Although I was not allowed to sit in the seat the canopy was opened for me to view. What is a 7 year old going to do anyway! I was not told until a few years later what the plane was. That was my first time seeing an SR 71

SRTech Club CoordinatorNo. Why all the secrecy? Did you finally get tired of the zip-tie jokes and buy a new bumper and have the hood polished?

Greetings MidCal family. Bitzie and I added to the MINI family by acquiring a Classic Mini this weekend. I drove it from San Diego to Santa Ana but it needs some tender care. The radiator needs flushing for one and I want to get it home and check all the hoses, belts etc. before driving it any further. I am trying to find a vehicle hauling firm but this is becoming quite the adventure. I am beginning to think it might be easier to just rent a truck and vehicle hauler myself. Any advice would be welcome. I have never driven a truck but as Sandra Bullock once said, its like driving a really big Pinto.
I looked into renting the truck and hauler in LA but they either don't have them or they are booked for months to come. Do they know something we don't and are all tying to get away? Anyway, advice is welcome as this is a new experience to me. I imagine slow and easy is what the situation calls for, I just have to remember I am not the length of a MINI Cooper driving a truck and a hauler. See what happens when I went to AMVIV? :devil:Attached Files:

SRTech Club CoordinatorOh, right! That was an awfully small scratch on the bumper, though!

SRTech Club CoordinatorCongratulation! Have you tried renting a trailer in the Fresno area and driving down and back?
Steve -
I do them but you would have to come here.
-
FYI, most truck rental places here in Orange County won't rent you a car hauler if it's going to another location 'within the state' or even for local move. So your best bet might be to rent a trailer from mid-Cal and do it yourself. you can probably rent a pickup truck with the trailer since the MINI is small enough
