Then the dent in the hood warranted complete repaint of it. They said they know of a guy that does excellent vinyl work as my vinyl that comes up onto the hood needs to be replace also :eek6: They said he will match it up perfectly.......we will see.

OK, so here's the skinny on trying to get the Classic Mini home. I could not rent a pickup in Orange County, just as was pointed out in a previous post. I have to rent a 10 foot box truck. My Dad wants to use the car dolly but I am afraid that the car will bottom out and wipe out the muffler and half of the back end of the car. I have convinced him that we go with the car trailer. The Mini appears to fit fine in the front but is a bit narrow in the rear. (If only I had that problem - no comments please.) I can see where the car trailer has straps that go over the front tires but only a chain in the rear. We are thinking that we can strap down the rear tires with individual straps that go through the wheels and around the trailer rails to make sure the skinny behind does not bounce off.

Has anyone out there towed a Classic using the Uhaul car carrier or does anyone have any words of wisdom? We have not even left town yet and the yelling has already begun. More than likely you will hear us next week screaming from one end of the State to the other. Just close your windows and turn up the stereo and I do apologize in advance. :mad2:

I haven't towed a Mini, but did tow a '67 Mustang convertible from Las Cruces, NM to Modesto a few years ago using a 10' U-haul truck and car trailer. My best advice is to take it slow and plan ahead so you don't have to back up. I'd offer to come down and drive for you, but I'm not available until the weekend. Sorry :(

You should be fine with the straps going through the rear wheels and around the trailer rails (for the Mustang I used the chain over the rear axle). You may not even feel the trailer behind the truck (the only time I felt the trailer with the Mustang was during the wind, dust and rain storm in western New Mexico).

Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions (although I know there are others here with much more towing experience than I have).

    Jim

Why didn't you just throw it in the back of the box truck? If the e-brake works and the front and rear are tied down, you're got it made. Just check the tightness of the straps a few times on the way home. I've hauled cars from SF to Denver over the mountains and as long as you check things you should be OK. The Mini is light so you should hardly feel it back there. Make sure all the lights work on the trailer. I've had to repair every u-haul trailer I ever rented.:frown5: Good luck!

Yeah, I thought of that too but LA is really weird about what they will and will not rent you. Seemed logical to me but they would not allow it. I can just see us get pulled over and get the third degree as to why we are driving an empty truck. Good thing we are headed North and not South. Going South they would think for sure that we were headed to Mexico to pick up a "load" using the Mini as a cover. :yikes:

Oh I almost forgot; thank you everyone for the assistance, guidance and great information with respect to getting the car home. This should be quite the adventure and I know that Dad and I will do fine. Just stay off the roads late next week and don't say that I did not warn you. :biggrin5:

Not every car is built the same even if built by the same manufacturer and not every driver of those cars is the same. Some people wave while others don't but in the end thanks to those that have stood in defense of the Constitution we all have the right to voice our opinion. They say opinions are like a** h**** we all one and they generally stink to others around us  Time to let it go and realize that your chain is being pulled however much like that junk yard dog at the end of the chain there is not much that can be said about this that will really help. If it is left it will die in the mass instead of being pulled up to the hot topics. As someone wise said in the forum "move on" oh wait that was the guy with "banned" under his name :ihih:

Called the dealership the other day and these are suppose to be out in the next two months. Now Suzie has to decide between the white silver Cabrio and the Roadster in the same color.... Initial price estimate is $1200 above Coupe model for the hard top and the same increase above the Cabrio model for the convertible model.
