Yes you can, but I recommend you have it professionally serviced. They will recover the current charge, vacuum the system, inject a dye & lube, and re-cycle the previous charge at a known volume. If it requires more you will only be charged for the additional amount, you will be aware there is a breach in the system if more is needed, and you will now have a tool for locating the leak. In my opinion well worth the $60-$80 (or less) most pros charge.

+1 on that. I decided to DIY on my Cherokee as it seemed to not get very cold. Got a kit from the autoparts store, checked the current level with the gauge (low), followed the instructions to refill and it didn't help. The stuff I used had a UV dye in it....you need a black light to use it.

I also think. Do it yourself only. Don't need to pay for this. Its an easy process.
