My after market system (link above) does the same thing, mutes the audio and plays the call through the car speakers. Works just like the OEM, WFSW buttons and all. Mine will only let one phone pair at a time too.

Ah, gotcha. Must be set up for more than one driver. That way it can pair with whoever is using the MINI that trip.

I had this same question since I bought mine used. I went to the mini dealer to get a new key and the service advisor was able to print out a sheet with all the options that came with my car (pretty standard).

I too have the steering wheel, but no bluetooth. I bought a blue ant speakerphone thing for $99 and it's pretty awesome, plus I can take it out of the car and use it wherever I am. The factory blue tooth kit is like $400 and installs into the back of the radio, behind the a pillar plastic (need a new one since they are only to be installed once) and up by the mirror.

I pulled the radio out to add the aux-in cable for my ipod (since the factory ipod thing SUCKS) and found the wires/harness you'd need for the bluetooth. Pretty easy to install if you pony up for the adaptor.
