My buddy's GP2 has a bit over 2500 miles on the Kumhos. Not too many tires that are basically intended for track use that'll go that far without a change. I'm not disagreeing that the tire MINI chose was the best for the customers, but as I understand, it was the buyers choice to leave them on or ask for an alternative. Michelin Pilot Super Sports are in the future for us both.

This is a great history lesson on the JCW and GP.
I like this part the best.
"the MINI GP lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 8:41 on standard tires."
It listed for $31,150.
Specifications:
•Horsepower: 215 hp at 7,100 rpm
•Torque: 180 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm
•0-62 mph: 6.5 seconds
•Top Speed: 146 mph
Early buyers of the MINI GP were invited to take delivery in Monterey, California before the start of MINI TAKES THE STATES 2006. So on August 18, 2006 the first MINI GPs were delivered with Mike Cooper and MINI USA Vice President, Jim McDowell, handing over the keys to the buyers.
MINI boasted that the MINI JCW GP lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 8:23. (with Coil overs and Race tires)
. With Kumho Ecsta V700 215/40-17 tires
•Adjustable coil-over suspension
The MINI John Cooper Works GP had an MSRP of $39,950
Specifications:
•Horsepower: 218 hp at 6,000 rpm
•Torque: 192 lb-ft at 1,750 to 5,750 rpm (overboost of 207 lb-ft)
•0-62 mph: 5.9 seconds
•Top Speed: 150 mph-

Yeah "Factory tires".....
That may last 500 miles.....:frown2:
How many people kept them? Why did MINI offer a real tire upgrade? -
