Well the question is... was the GTR that said were doing 170 reading the speedo or was that data. Cause the speedo at that kinda speed can be 30-40mph off. I know 179 in the GT2 the speedo told me I was up near 200. Sucker was optimistic. My Mini told me I was well north of 140 mph at Road Atlanta..... data showed it was actually 130.

So would the competition... :arf:
Just come by (or have a friend come by) on July 4th weekend at Willow Springs and see the car run in real life... i'm sure the ABF MINIs will set some more time records
-
i hear ***crickets***
When we ran the R56 JCW last year at Cal Speedway and broke the 2-minute barrier, a lot of people said we 'cheated' blah blah b/c it's not "possible" in a near-stock MINI... Well, we shut that up this year by besting the previous record by nearly 2 full seconds.
There are sooo many "300HP" SC MINIs running around Socal, but i don't see any time records... surely, if the ABF R56 is only putting down 212whp, then these 300HP+ mini's could very easily shatter the current records, no?
Like someone once said, there are a lot of internet experts and internet racers out there, but the true racers are those out on the tracks. There may be only a couple of cars in our class, but the purpose of the Time Attack is beating the Time... So if we're the only one in our class out there, it doesn't matter b/c it's what time we run that matters...
When ABF ran the Drag mini and hit 10's, many said 'well, nobody cares about Drag Racingin the MINI community.." So now, we are racing the same car on the Road Course, where did everybody go? Competition brings out the best in all of us, let's see some more Road Racing MINIs
If you think the time we set is trivial, then bring your car out there and beat our time!!! Time Attack is the perfect format to SHOW what your car can do w/o interference (nobody blocking you, drafting you or bumping you off the track).
cheers... -
goaljnky New MemberI recall back in the day talking to someone with a purpose build car at an LA auto show (can't remember the car but the story stuck with me). Too many years ago to remember, but long enough ago that the 200 mph club was truly exclusive and only consisted of a handful of cars. Anyway, in discussing the top speed the guy said something along the line of "once you get to the 150 mph every mile after that will cost you $1,000.". Once you ponder that, it starts making real sense. Add to that some inflation and you can figure out the rest.

And I can't even count how many 120mph boats I outran with my 90mph boat...
Let's see the data log!!!

Ok, so the 170 figure may have been in the Fish Story genre, but Mike does have a very good point there. Many of us have been touting the road course as a real measure of a MINI's potential while looking down our collective noses at the drag end. Some of that was the, lets say; oddly creative marketing, that went along with that program some time ago.
Kudos to ABF and Mynes for getting out there even if it is a class of one at this time. At least they are progressing and cutting their own times. This Time Attack stuff looks like it could be quite the place for the various parties involved to show what they got at the same venue. Hopefully some of the others in the MINI realm will join the fray. -
That's the great thing about life isn't it? Just don't know what the future has in store for ya!!

:lol: did you read what you wrote? -
Yep

You are right on, nathan
And Kudos to RSR as well for sticking with their program. It's an arduous task running a team with 3 cars, and they are out there trying their best given the rules and limitations set forth by Grand Am. If you don't at least try, then you will never succeed... for them, they are at least half-way to success. Once they get the grimlins worked out of their cars, i'm sure they will have much better success
Go RSR Go!!!
Agree with you 100%... it takes a lot of resources to make a car (any car) go faster and faster.
 NO way, Jose... track times speak for themselves... no one is claiming a 170MPH 'record' of any kind so what's is there to prove:lol: Only those who are part of the ABF/Mynes Racing team get to see the datalog; the last time i check, you're not on our team:eek6: If you get a MINI out there that can beat our track times, then i will make an exception

Well now I'm crushed to find out I'm not on the ABF/Mynes team.....LOL LOL LOL!!

and you don't know much about boats either....

Are you sure? According to Wiki a 2008 Mini Cooper has a Cd of .35 and a 2008 GT2 has a Cd of .32......hmmm....interesting. My Honda Odyssey smokes them both at .30

on the other hand according to the same Wiki:
0.7 to 1.1 typical values for a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One"]Formula One[/ame] cars.
And we all now how dog slow those things are.

 I said this to qualify you as not so much an expert in judgment of speeds and the vehicles at which they are attained. In boating ( presumption you are referring to either a squirt or v drive and not an IO with regards to 90 & 120mph speeds) if you have an engine and haul designed to carry 120mph than you will do just that.(unless a mechanical problem limiting the original concept. So if you in fact are challenging 120mph hauls with your 90 mph haul than they are not really giving you a run and you would be foolish to presume a faster boat! I said faster not quicker which is another thing we could dis qualify your exaggerations.
Gosh now how do I know this........ Not all my toys have wheels !!
The MINI attaining a 170mph range is not out of the realm. As someone stated it was not for a record of any top speed which is calculated a bit different than what a car can eventually do on a long enough stretch. .So what is the real point in placings such a concern on this?
