Crash was alcohol related, CSP says EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- UPDATE The two teens killed in an early morning car crash in Black Forest have been identified as Palmer Ridge High School students. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) identified the victims as 17-year-old Beau Begier and 18-year-old Ryan Pappas, both of Monument. According to CSP, the two were passengers in a Mini Cooper driven by a 17-year-old boy from Parker. The driver, who was headed eastbound on Hodgen Road, failed to stop at a stop sign at Roller Coaster Road. The vehicle became airborne as it crossed Roller Coaster, then lost control and spun off the north side of the road. CSP said the car went through a ditch and a grove of trees before colliding with a tree. Begier was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Pappas was wearing a seat belt, remaining in the car, according to State Patrol reports. Both died at the scene. A third passenger, also 17 of Monument, suffered serious injuries, and was transported via helicopter. The teenage driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a juvenile detention facility after being treated at Penrose Hospital. He is facing vehicular homicide charges, as well as numerous lesser charges. At this time, alcohol use and high speed are thought to be factors in the crash. __________________________________________________________
Sad but all the safety features in the world won't protect stupid. All kids underage drinking = future wrongful death lawsuits will be filed.
How sad. We all make dumb mistakes when we're young...but it's terrible when those mistakes lead to loss of life. Their poor families.
Yes, this is a horrible thing to be sure. This happens all too often and certainly more times than I would wish to ever see again... Prayers to the families and the survivor.
I know this intersection well. If he blew through the stop sign at speed they were doomed. Nasty hump. I feel for the families.
To quote a British traffic cop: "There is no cure for being 17 - except, if you are very lucky, making it to 18".
