I have a great Radio Shack, 2 way, battery operated .It's got the stuff you are seeking. Looking at it, I think it can be used for local messaging as well has heavier stuff that may require a license [but I don't know as I only bought it for close calling]. It's hardly ever been used although I keep the batteries changed. Since I am usually a solo driver, I've really not had too many times when I have used it. Anyway, I'll bring it along and if you look at it, like it and can figure it out, you can have it for free, OK?.
They come in the next major update to the site.. more on that in about 2 weeks. Finalizing the timeline.
Agree with @Dave.0 post. We use those when RZR riding. They have good distance in the mountains. I have 2 or 3.. can bring them if you like instead of buying one.
All new G-Loc R8 pads installed, summer tires on and alignment scheduled for next Friday. Then fully Dragon ready.
I'm also a fan of Motorola radios. Almost all of the blister-pack radios work the same in terms of quality, but I've still got my original pair of Motorola radios from 2006 and I've lost several others that were dontated to me (I used to lead a lot of club drives) due to faulty batteries and issues from people dropping the radios. The Motorolas take a licking and keep on ticking. FYI: I prefer radios that come with rechargeable batteries that can be left in the radio and plugged in to recharge, but where you can pull out the rechargeables and replace 'em with AA batteries (always nice to have the option, in case you forget to recharge). If you like driving with the windows down or your co-pilot likes to listen to music while you drive, I might also suggest getting a Secret Service style earpiece for the radio. One that has an ear canal sealed unit and a remote press-to-talk microphone. This lets you hear the radio over the music/wind noise. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JYTWT0/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also... coming from a drive leader... please DO NOT turn on VOX features of your radio. They pick up the wind noise and your radio and then that's all anyone else in range of your handset can hear. I had to pull over a drive one time and check everyone's radios to find the person blocking transmission for the whole group. It wasn't that hard... the whole group what music the offending car was listening to. I just walked back until I heard the same music coming from a car that was also playing on my radio... Their 3 year old had gotten a hold of it and monkeyed with the settings.
Well, my MINI left home on a flatbed today. Seems one of the fittings on the rear driver's bag was bad. It's already fixed...but we are having problems fitting the new wheels and getting them to play nice with the air suspension. I may just be going back to my 16" wheels for the Dragon. At least my last trip to the liquor store was a success.
Unfortunately, I must cancel my trip so MOTD this year and the Cigar Salon, as well, due to an unforeseen emergency here at home. I'll be calling Fontana as soon as I get offline. Have fun.
Thanks, Lee. Send me your addy and I'll send you that cigar. I guess this trip was just not in the cards for me, even though my car is all set to go.
Are you driving alone or is someone coming with you? How long are you staying? My plan was to go down Tuesday and return on Friday.
Yes, I'm going down alone and staying till Sunday. I'd be glad for the company and I have a room with 2 beds if you can stay longer.
Teddy, I'll see what I can do. Never say never, I guess. I'll keep in touch... I need to talk with Barry as well as Fontana. No one is around right now, so I'll have a better idea what I can put together after I talk with them tomorrow. That said, I'd love to at least drive with another car onTuesday and return Thursday. We'll see how that goes, but I'll update you tomorrow.
Well, add me to the list of people that have to cancel Dragon plans. I was on schedule to have the car ready to go, but other things have come up preventing me from going. I was looking forward to seeing Teddy and company. I changed my reservations to the fall event. Y’all have a ball.
