Yeah I don't pay retail for OEM parts even when I buy them at the Dealership. :ihih:

It pays to make friends with your local dealership parts manager.

A note about the titanium bolts for the ATI Crank Pulley. No they are not needed, Unless! you need to remove it several times and end up breaking the stock bolts in it. They come with good hardware and will not break unless used over and over again. Like most bolt that are under stress on the engine, it's best to replace them with new ones when there is the need. We stock 10 dampers and only two bolt kits, so must people don't need them over all. but it's best that we have a few of everything in stock when you need it...we have it. But to the pulley question..i have always liked the 15% on the supercharge and 0% or 2% for the crank..but it's all a personal preference and you can run more if you take the right measures to keep things safe. But again we stock 20 15% pulleys and 2 17% pulleys..just cause.

    Thanks for the insight Chad.
On another note, it looks like UPS has lost my tensioner tool again for the second time this month AND my new idler pulley. Oh well, time to file another claim.

What is that statement based on? a blower with a 17 or 19% will fail early, but
a blower with a 15% will have the same life span as a blower with a stock pulley? That is BS. The worst that can be claimed is that the blower may fail 2% sooner, if all other things were equal (which they will never be).

Make the pulley decision based on the condition of the motor, intended use of the car, and level of maintenance/care one plans on putting into the car in the future.

Do not go with a 19%. The heat increase out weighs the boost. With my 17% pulley I have a delta of about 50 deg. on the intake temp and that was a cool 40 deg day! Also on a MINI you are not just turning the SC faster but also the water pump (its driven off the back of the SC). If you turn it too fast it can cause cavitation. There are a lot of other variables to look at beside just boost increase. There is heat rise, greater demand for fuel, if you push it in can you get it out the exhaust, just to name a few.
Also 2% bigger does not equal 2% shorter life it is not linear.

Ok since you know everything do what you want and don't cry to all of us about it when your blows up.

The faster the supercharger spins the more heat it generates. They don't call it a Heaton supercharger for nothing.

This is a known FACT and I am not going to sit here and explain the basics of physics to you.

If you want to make big power buy a Sprintex.

Yeeeaaaah......i didnt think you had any data to support your comment.

Yes, any over-driven SC will make more heat than the stock setup, INCLUDING one with a 15% pulley.

Hey 2 post its looks like you are on the wrong forum you should be on the NAM.

You want data go look it up for yourself I am not going to spoon feed you knowledge I and EVERYONE else already knows.

Also it looks like you have an ax to grind with me Mr. Hide behind a keyboard and post nothing about yourself. All my info is out for all to see so who are you?

Are you not comfortable exposing yourself as a fraud? Send me a PM or an e-mail and I will be more than happy to call and educate you. If you do I fact leave your mothers basement and if you are at the Dragon this year ask around I am easy to find.

Dave.....why when someone has a different opinion than you always gets lambasted? There are thousands of 1st gens out there with over 17%....either with just the SC pulley, or both the SC and the crank pulley combined, with no issues? Common sense is a must when running this %, but they still run fine.

You are better off going with a 15% and a cam than a 17% thats my thoughts.
the 15% is on the edge of the compressor map already a 17 or 19 will push it even further off. Diminishing returns is the easiest way to explain that.
The cam increases the volumetric efficiency without having to overdrive the blower as much.
People will argue with me, i don't care.
All of the pulleys are essentially good quality.
That said i prefer Helix/Craven pulleys. i have never had trouble with either.
Alegedly Alta makes a good one. I had no problems with it when i had one though they have changed the design.

It makes no sense to go above 17%...Belt squealing, slippage, and heat--not worth a tiny 2% gain. Sure some run them with no problems, but that just confounds the issue. It's not the few who haven't had issues, but the many who have that we should focus on.

I agree 100% with Colin, 15% is safe and spinning above that at high RPMs is fruitless, but hot. 17%, ok, if you're looking for down low and never Rev high. 19%, not worth it.

Kind of funny Jim, you blast Dave for "lambasting" anyone who doesn't agree with him, but you yourself seem to only post here anymore to lambast Dave....

Sometime a mirror is an unflattering object.

Yeah 15% is the safe and sane option.
I only went to a 17% because I have a meth kit and just wanted to see what happened.
It had such a heat gain on my "old" blower it was not worth it
But making power the right way will never be cheap regardless of what car you are modifying.

Jimmini, go craw back under your rock because you bring nothing to this conversation at all. You just like to come into threads and stoke the flames and it's getting old.

Go be a good little boy and go see Lynn in Jail.

Fyi you always cry poor and can't afford the good parts. Here is a idea go sell your MINI and ride your pedal bike or get a better job.

    Stop crying poor.

No I am 100% sober and you are well ....still YOU.

Just go away no one cares about anything you have to say.....EVER.

Haven't you learned that over the past few years? Nobody cares what you say.
