Thank you! I did end up sending a message to the service manager at Niello Mini and now have it in writing that my planned upgrades won't affect my warranty, per se. It's also very comforting to know that so many people have not had issues. I'm planning on having this done within the next few months.
I hate to tell you this, but someone has to tell you. Modding is an addiction. I know you think it will only be this one time, but it never is. Your just one autocross or track day from real addiction. But don't worrier we are here to help you spend your money and Mod the MINI! LET THE MODS BEGINE!
Haha! I believe you! If I told my husband I wanted to take my car to the track, he would probably have a heart attack.
Hey guys! As an update, I have my Koni Sport Shocks and Swift Spec-R springs in hand. My mechanic also suggested I have the lower control arm bushings changed out at some point soonish, as the lower ride would do a number on the stock bushings. Soooo, I figured I may as well get that done at the same time and have purchased Powerflex bushings. Thank you all for your input! Does anyone have a suggestion as to a good starting point for the shock adjustment? It's my daily driver and my kiddos ride in the back sometimes...so I'd rather not jar their teeth straight out of their mouths. At the same time though, I want it to be a fun ride. You guys are the best!
You've started down the "dark path" of MINI modding......forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you, it will! I know, because I heard it from a reliable source: ---
I like the 'tude. Its yours have fun with it. I second the koni yellow/swift springs -- been extremely happy with that set up over stock OEM. Increases the fun factor quite a few notches.:mtrn:
I use to run my Konis with the rear set to medium and the front to soft. If I was going to autocross or the dragon I would run the rears on stiff and the fronts on medium. Now for around town I just set them to soft. A Koni is not soft even on soft. You may want to consider getting a rear sway bar. That will really make a difference on handling. Thats my next Mod. Also if you don't get adjustable camber plates and rear adjustable control arms you will need to rotate your tiers often. I do not have them so I have found if I rotate my tires every 3k it makes a big difference on longevity of my tires. I have powerflex bushings on my MINI they are great. Welcome to the dark side. Mod on
One more thing. don't forget to get it aligned. There was a good discussion on alignment settings if you don't want to use the stock alignment. If I can find it I will link back to it. Or maybe someone els knows where it is.
I am sure we won't hear from you for awhile because you will be out driving looking for every twisty road you can find. :ihih: Enjoy the new setup when it's all completed.
You're gonna love the new setup. I'm guessing that the ride won't be nearly as bad as you fear, and that the handling will far surpass your expectations. Suspension mods are the most fun for me. I always feel like it was money well spent after the first drive. Take it on a nice long drive and let us know how it drives.
