Maybe with the above tow strap you could keep it in the car and then put it on when needed therefore limiting its exposure to sunlight and weather

You're always a wealth of information. I've read the more tradition tow hooks hooks have been prone to rust and the above tow strap would obviously be outside and exposed to direct sunlight.

When shopping for a tow hook make sure that it does say it does work for towing. There are many on the market that are just for looks.

If you want a tow hook for the race track that is a very good one. If you want to leave it on the front of your car as a design accessory there are better ones out there. The sun will kill the nylon over time & it will beat the paint up around its mounting.

I'd stay away from the fleaBay ones, they have been known to fail when actually used as a tow hook. The Rennline is a very good one.

:cornut: Having a lot of experience with those kinds of straps in the military, keep them away from 'dinged up' metal hooks that easily cut through them. Also never connect a nylon strap to another nylon strap as when they rub together they melt. Time spent in direct sunlight rapidly causes deterioration of nylon.

Craven Speed is also very good. And it works as a tow hook. I know this from actual use!

I'd hope not to have to use it but I'd like it to work if needed.

I have recently noticed an increase of nylon straps being used on race cars. Seems like a good choice if a good quality and only installed when on the track. A couple advantages with the strap are 1) the strap allows the hook to be a distance way from the bumper when being towed and 2) any size hook will easily attach to the strap. The stock mini tow eyelet is limited to the size of hook that will fit through the hole and could require the use of a D clip to attached a larger hook (would probably never be an issue). The strap could also be a disadvantage when the strap does not have tension because it could allow a tow hook to swing down and hit the bumper.

Turners products are usually very good so I would suspect the tow straps would be good quality. However $100 is pretty expensive for a tow strap/eyelet since you probably want two for the track.

Well.... Here's the thing about nylon... They all start to degrade from UV exposure over time.... This can be improved with UV stabilizers that can be added to the polymer during compounding, one of the best is carbon black, acts like little sun blockers protecting the polymer bonds... But eventually the polymer will start to break down...

And just when you need it to do it's job.... Snap....

If its for cosmetic purposes.... No problem...
If it's for track use.... Be checking the webbing for degradation.... If it's stored and only comes out for use on track days... should last quite a while....

But if it's hanging on the bumper all the time and then comes a track day.... Welp... Keep a spare....

    Just my $0.02...:D

Yep & that's why race organizations require seat belt replacements at regular intervals. :yesnod:
