Thumper, Your posting does come off on the short bus side of the fence. At least Nitro can play off a diploma.

I do have a "Jan Tune" as it's called on my R50 engine. Granted I only picked up 7-8 HP and TQ peak, BUT there were areas within the curve that I gained 15 ft lbs. I now have a whopping 113 HP and 113 Ft Lbs... at a cost of about $450 for the tune/dyno time... Been on the car for about 5 years and 80,000 miles and still kicking.. I do have a DDM CAI, and Megan Racing cat-back.. both installed before tune.. Maybe with a good cam you could pick up another 8-10 HP MAYBE, which would put you in the 120-125 HP area.. and $800- $1000 spent range depending on cam install rate, and which cam you buy... Just not much power to be gained in the R50 engine at any price really.. So it just depends on what you want and how much money your willing to spend to get it..

Technology in search of an application....

You've already said Nitrous on the street isn't a great idea. I agree.

So how about Nitrous for the track? On a 1/4 mile dragstrip, maybe. But they do that across the pond, not so much here. A few here do stateside, but not many.

On a road track? Not the best idea, considering the vast majority of HPDE's don't allow it (in fact, I don't know a single one that does, although I'm sure there's one somewhere.). And that's what the majority of us here in the U.S. are doing.

Nitrous doesn't make sense for the vast majority of R53 MINI owners.

And Nitrous on an R50 makes even less sense, if it's possible.

I really don't think you get to decide when a thread has ended. Also why do you keep liking posts of people that are telling you your NOS idea is stupid?

Do you not get the fact that EVERYONE disagrees with you?

    Just saying.................

Back to regular normal non-bashing posting please....

After all the web posts BS-ing dust settles. You really only need to contact one person if you want to know what a good CAM will do in your car.

I would only call one person that has been tuning Minis all over with excellent proven results for years.

Well, I hope I haven't opened up a big shitstorm here. Money certainly is an object, and I'm not interested in running nitrous. I'm not looking to build the worlds fastest r50, just want to be able to accelerate a little quicker, and maybe climb hills without having to redline in third and say a prayer. I appreciate all the info and opinions, and will consider everything. I hope some r50 owners with camshafts, heads, or tunes will turn up before this thread gets locked!

I post in this thread only because I have a conscience. I have learned from experience, many of them painful, a few of them expensive, what works and what doesn't. I know each time we post in this thread it gives you the attention you desire, and usually I refrain from posting here specifically because of that, but this is a bit over the top.

I have a few pm's too Mike, here and especially at NAM. And a few conversations with people who have dyno'd various cams and heads. It's surprising what you can learn in private, especially from people who don't have a stick in the fire. I encourage ANYONE looking to do any mod to the car--wether it be a head, cam, or Nitrous to do the same; call a few different vendors you trust, then talk to the people making the parts. I fell into to the trap on occasion of not doing that, and more often than not it ended badly. I've finally got it right--in fact better than I ever thought the car could be.

But as for the private pm's, conversations, etc., there are too many agendas to count. It's probably best if we kept that all private.

Well, I've dropped Jan at RMW an email asking about a tune and/or camshaft. Thumper, you seem like a decent guy, but I have a hard time following what you are talking about most of the time, and all the ****posting back and forth in this thread between you and everyone else makes me uneasy about doing business with you. A vendor should really not be name calling and so forth, it doesn't present a very professional image. Just my opinion.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I will pass on this thread because you have a good tune now and good plan for the future.

I can't exactly explain because every time I read one of Thumpers posts I go stupid I guess its shock or something. So I resort to simple pokes because I am shocked stupid and can't come up with anything constructive its just that bad. I guess I need to work on desensitizing myself to Thumpers posts because they sure are duzzies.

Exactly... the whole lower half of the motor is not built as strong as the R53.... not a good foundation for certain applications like nitrous.

Some people should re-read a post before they post it. The only point you made was mine.

" It is better to be thought Stupid. Than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!!"

Some people should stick with 70's motors and toy with Saturday night Mustangs getting them to "Cam-up".

    Just me ..................

This thread is a train wreck. I think I'll drop 3k on a fox body mustang as a second car and call it a day.
