1st Gen R50 Cooper Most liked posts in thread: ANYONE build a r50 engine yet??

This is the reason why i think there should be a Super Punch Out section....let the people with misgivings go in there and hash it out...and personally im getting tired of people who claim they are a tuner come in and hand out horrible advice which i know from other communities that same advice led to alot of destroyed engines and pissed off people...nitrous is never the answer to a long term issue...oh sure its fun now...but one missstep...one spike...one overly long sustained shot of N2O and boom...it happened to my brothers H23 built accord...one shot too many and it cooked the head...and after thousands to get it repaired he had enough and dumped it for another built H23 accord that was N/A and left it alone and had years of fun before he traded it in for a 03 Terminator

I had my RMW tune done, as I posted in another thread I started. It's great, not really dramatic but I have the passing power I need and I'm happy with the results. I'm considering a trip down the Pacific Coast this fall/next spring, and I'm considering getting the RMW camshaft installed while I'm down there.

Anyone out there with a cam in their R50?

I called him years ago when I had my R50 and wanted a Stroker Motor.

Long story short, he wouldn't sell me one "under good conscious" because I had the notoriously bad Midlands tranny and told me that tranny wouldn't handle it.
That was all I needed to hear.

I knew at that point he was a stand up guy. Listen to what he says.

Words cannot state how disappointed I am right now at the direction this has gone.

 

FYI~
The rods are so weak and thin in the R50 first shot of nitrous will put them out the front of the block. The R50 motor is not the R53 motor.

Money is a object to me, so that is why I went with tested and proven parts. I like to buy parts that work and are reliable year in and year out.

As I said over on MT..... If someone pays for it I REALLY want to build and go win in an ITB 2005 Cooper. I think it would be a hella awesome car for the class.
Brad Davis built what I believe to be the First HP mini Cooper. He had ECU issues (wasn't happy with the battery kill switch) down at sebring and it drove to the tech shed but no further. Car looks really sweet, but I believe he didn't touch the motor yet. He'll have the car up at Roebling in a few weeks.

 

The only guys I've seen that want to get more HP our of an R50 motor seem to want to do it with a supercharger or turbo...

 

Heck I'd love to have more HP out of my NA engine but!!!
No one is giving away parts and labor to me soooooooooooo...........

I have heard of a race mini overseas somewhere with over 200 HP out of a NA engine. Probably lots of compression and race fuel only of course..
