This thread is a train wreck. I think I'll drop 3k on a fox body mustang as a second car and call it a day.

Haha.. Well, I'm not set on a mustang. Camaro, Trans Am, etc. I want more straight line fun, and putting it in the Cooper isn't practical

Well, I love my r50, which is thoroughly modified, suspension wise. It grips like crazy through the bends. However, sometimes a little more passing power would be advantageous. I'd be pleased to have a little more in the Cooper without having to get an S, but it is looking grim. Getting a cheap, fast rwd for highway runs might be fun. There is a huge aftermarket for mustangs... I'm told with some work, they can turn. $3k into the Cooper, risking reliability, having no idea what to expect gain wise.. Or have a second car with the ability to get "slideways" drifting around parking lots and enough power to climb mountain highways at speed.

I have a question: do I need to read the entire thread before putting it out of its misery?

P.S. I only read the last four posts.

Well, the last four are about my interest in ugly muscle cars from the nineties. Read the last few pages.

Thumper, Your posting does come off on the short bus side of the fence. At least Nitro can play off a diploma.

This is the reason why i think there should be a Super Punch Out section....let the people with misgivings go in there and hash it out...and personally im getting tired of people who claim they are a tuner come in and hand out horrible advice which i know from other communities that same advice led to alot of destroyed engines and pissed off people...nitrous is never the answer to a long term issue...oh sure its fun now...but one missstep...one spike...one overly long sustained shot of N2O and boom...it happened to my brothers H23 built accord...one shot too many and it cooked the head...and after thousands to get it repaired he had enough and dumped it for another built H23 accord that was N/A and left it alone and had years of fun before he traded it in for a 03 Terminator

You could not have said it more correct. 6 years on the bottle and I am at less than 3% leak down, compression with less than 3-4 psi difference. I would only suggest this as a power adder for the fun of it.. or for going after more powerful cars than yours. IF you choose NOT to do this mod.. that is good!! It is such an easy mod, anyone can install it, and the true bottom line on Nitrous.. Rocks!! AND damage will result if the parameters are pushed. It is NOT forgiving. Of the Nitrous MINI's I know of... there has Been NO Issues!! are they lucky or just good?? Who Knows.

That being said, look at this cylinder... MELTED!!
    burnthecylinderHead1.jpg

This is a head off a modified BUILT/ Tuned , NO bottle. This point being it will happen to anyone IF the parameters are pushed. I think the old adage is " pay to play" or here in the South it is.. " They all are going to end up in the Junk yard, it depends on just how fast!" Yes?

As established here, the r50 is pricey to get power to match just the base r53. However they are a blast to drive and play with. My final suggestion is to build it as the money allows, go for the exhaust ( for sound) and Handling aspects, and have fun with other r50's.

Have fun and remember.. running the Dragon is Illegal ( might be why all the Tn. Troopers are there..), it is just as bad as Drag racing on the streets. No matter how you slice it, it is always better to keep it safe on the street and take the aggressive drives to the track.

Thanks for all the responce to my opening thread question..:
ANYONE build an r50 engine yet!

OL.. you wild and crazy guy!! Labor to install camshaft: $250.00 / or labor to install cylinder Head: 450-$600.00. Labor to do a basic Nitrous Kit.. FREE maybe a few of your hours.

ADVICE?? How about we use 'suggestions' : Free!! Research : FREE
reading 8 pages of Trolls.. FREE ! Knowledge is the Key in anything you do.. As you can see the 3-4 'helpful ' people had nothing to add other than trying to disqualify me!! LOL Cool!! they are where they are, and there is power and security behind the key board at distance.

As I started this thread, I will now say it is ended. There is nothing more constructive to be said. Enjoy the read, the discussion, the distractions.. and have a good week end. Just me......................................
