Anyone interested in a train ride?

I know this is a really early start for next year's MOTD, but I want to see if there is much interest before getting really involved in the planning stages.

We are thinking about hosting a run to Bryson City for a ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad: Bryson City, NC. The 4.5hr trip departs at 10:30 and runs along the Tuckasegee River, over the Fontana Lake Trestle, and into the Nantahala River Gorge. There is a 1 hr stop at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Cost is approximately $50. I'm looking at us using the standard seating in the Coach, but if you want to upgrade that would be up to you if there are no restrictions on this for groups.

Depending on group size (we need 20+) we could get a discount, but the group would need to have some type of reservation deposit. Also on the day of the trip we would have to have at least 20 people or the discount wouldn't apply. I'm not sure about parking areas & any costs at this time. I'm going to contact them this week to get a little more specific information on group trips and will update this post as I get additional information

Right now I'm thinking of doing this on Thursday or Friday to minimize conflict with the Farewell Dinner.

I know this is awful early for any kind of commitment, but if there is enough potential interest I'm more than willing to jump onto this project and see what we can do.

 

Nope, riding is a whole lot different than running a train.

I think it is the same parking lot. We could give both Soda Pops and the sandwich store a little extra MINI business.

 

Did you take medication to get over it?

This week was a little crazy so I haven't contacted them yet, but it's on the list of things to do this week.

 

Yep, figured I'd get check interest before really digging into it, and I can get things ready in case I have time issues closer to MOTD.
