    A beautiful Whalen shift knob slathered with plastidip just seems so wrong to me. I do understand they get hot. I have a metal one in my Miata that is powder coated white & it seems to stay a bit cooler. If all else fails put an old Gym sock on it. :wink:

    The one in my MINI does not get hot, but wow it can get cold. I got a shift knob cozy from Outmotoring for winter use. Guess you could use that for summer use too. :biggrin5:

    Florida resident here with a Whalen shift knob. My sunroof has limo tint (5%), windows are 20%. When I park at work I close everything up & use a reflective sun shade on the windshield. When I hit the grocery store, beach, or wherever else my MINI takes me I usually close the windows & sunroof (but leave it popped up); sometimes I leave it totally open

    Under none of the above situations/circumstances has my shift knob been too hot to handle. Get some tint for you MINI but please don't deface a beautiful Whalen shifter. :frown2:

    Quite the conundrum. The thought of the metal shift knob getting hot in the sun never occurred to me before. Seems like a legitimate concern.

    That said, putting paint over a Whalen knob somehow seems akin to drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa...

    Buy the shift knob condom from Outmotoring. If you get the one with the ridges it will feel better!

    Can't answer your ? But I do know a metal shift knob gets quite hot even in my HT with the panoramic sunroof. I've almost considered just getting a pair of driving gloves lol.
