Pretty much anything I can do on the PC I can also accomplish on my iPad. The exception is when I sit down to do some heavy duty writing. There is just not the equivalent of the Help Authoring Tools I use at this time on tablet.

I have found , on the web , my Ipad does thing better than a PC 90% of the time ,does not work as well as a PC 5% of the time and does not do what I want it to do 5% of the time.
For some strange reason some videos are restricted not to work mobile devices. I use an old PC rather than throw the IPad across the room during the 5 to 10% it does not do what I need it to do.-

I probably do 90+ percent of my personal computing on my iPad. If my home computer would go down I'm sure I could do without it. Anything that I couldn't figure out I would just use my work PC to perform.

Having grown up on a QWERTY keyboard, I'm much more efficient in my writing using all ten digits on keys that provide some physical feedback. My productivity with a tablet would suffer without a separate keyboard accessory. I'm sticking with my notebook for now, supplemented by my iPhone. Those two devices fulfill almost all of my needs/wants.

My iPad is like an adult toy for me-can't figure out a reason to actually need it, but it's nice and shiny
I have a Macbook Pro Retina and two W7 PC's I built. Just no way an iPad could replace those:
*Photo editing(Photoshop)-even if there was an acceptable photo editor that could run on the iPad, there's no way to calibrate that screen.
*School. I need access to spreadsheets, Word, remote presence software , USB...Like the other poster said, I have been working on keyboards since 9th grade, and I don't want to give that up. I like the really loud keyboards that have springloaded keys..they "clack" when you type...love it...
*Gaming. I'm a pretty hard-core FPS(first person shooter) player. Consoles and those goofy controllers are for kids. And Angry Birds on an iPad does not do it for me. Give me a 24" monitor, SLI driven with dual GPU's, a keyboard, mouse, and honkin' fast Intel processor and memory, and I'm a happy gamer...
i will say the iPad is convenient for surfing the web out on the patio, or elsewhere around the house... -
I use my iPad a lot, on it now. But One of my hobbies is photography so I could never live with just a tablet.
If I was made of money I would get a ModBook Pro. But that's another story. -

I have a Samsung tablet and I like it a lot, for reading and looking up actors names in movies on TV, but I gotta have a real keyboard when web surfing.
I just bought a Toshiba Windows 8 touchscreen laptop to replace my Acer XP laptop that just crapped the bed. Touchscreen and a keyboard, you can't beat that!

I love my Alienware gaming server that I use as a workstation now because I like the 20+ inch screen! loads of Ram, Processors and 4 TB of drive space and wireless keyboard and mouse.
But I use my 3rd Gen iPad w/Retina display for all my web surfing when I am not down at my desk. -

I used a homebuilt PC (i7-920, 12 Gb RAM, 3 Tb, dual 21" Viewsonics) since 2009. I got an iPad 2 back when it was new and like it a lot. I mainly use it to keep up with emails and surf the web, but I use it at work as a 64 Gb clipboard with internet and email access. It's a great tool for an engineer on a job site. Our work laptops are so constipated with over the top security that it takes 15 minutes to boot up, then it's so slow and clunky that it's almost unusable outside an office environment. Notability is a really fantastic app for anyone who likes to draw, sketch, or type up notes.
I tried a PC with Windows 8 and liked it so much I went out and bought a MacBook Pro. Out of the box, it was nearly as fast as my desktop PC. After I installed 16 Gb RAM, it is a LOT faster than my desktop Windows box. I haven't fired it up in months. (The Norton subscription has run out and I'm afraid to turn it on with the internet up until I get an updated version.
At home, I use Photoshop quite a bit, and I have 4 or 5 windows of a browser opened up with about a half dozen tabs open. Tablets are great, but I wouldn't want to be without a real computer as well. I do love the iPad out in the shop so I can check the MF Library, Youtube, or other useful sites while I'm working on a car. -

I think the bigger question the OP needs to answer is what do you need the PC for?
Only thing I use my PC for that my tablet can't do is the video streaming of movies and such to my Playstation. And as soon as I can I am going to ditch my 6 yr old home-built PC for a home-built media center.
