I've even swaped the license plate bulbs to LED. Strange thing is they flash with the lights off. I turn the lights on/off and the flashing stops. I swapped the reversing light to LED too....Now I have a disco Mini LOL
Yup you need LEDs with resistors for the rear lights or they blink. Ask me how I know? :incazzato: Chris you need these from Oitmotoring. I have had them in for 2 plus years no blinking. MINI Cooper LED License Plate Light: R50 R52 R53
Ha, I just got to the same realization after watching my new LEDs blink while the car is "OFF" - bizzare. I checked and there's actually 10 volts on those connectors when the bulbs are out of the car. that set from Outmotoring - is that with the plastic covers, or do I re-use my grungy, half broken covers? I need one replaced as it has been cooked to brittle yellow crystals by the stock bulbs. Is it normal for those stock bulbs to get so warm? (the reason I was trying LEDs).
I ordered the set from Outmotoring. Will report back, but based on ads I saw on Amazon, these are the whole cover plus the adapter to plug into the old bulb position. While waiting for the new lights, some packing tape covers my bulbs. One good thing that came out of all this is the dirt removal behind that whole handle assembly, as I took it off to take a peek in there before realizing I had to pop the covers to remove the bulbs. The 10 volts I measured must be the voltage that drives the hatch handle relay, using the same circuit the lights are on, and LEDs apparently when driven with not enough power will blink. The same LEDs work fine in the dome light and glove box position where there is no voltage when the lights are off.
